레바논의 백향목

1.  11년째 되는 해 셋째 달 1일에 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임해 말씀하셨다.
2.  “사람아, 이집트 왕 바로와 그의 무리에게 말하여라. 네 장엄함을 누구에게 비교하겠느냐?
3.  앗시리아는 레바논의 백향목이었다. 그의 아름다운 가지는 숲에 그늘을 드리웠고 그 키는 컸으며 그 꼭대기는 나뭇잎으로 빽빽했다.
4.  물은 그것을 자라게 했고 깊은 샘은 그것을 높이 자라게 했으며 그의 강들은 그 심긴 곳 주위를 흘러가 그 물줄기가 들판의 모든 나무들에 흘러들었다.
5.  그리하여 그 나무의 높이는 들판의 모든 나무들 위에 우뚝 솟았다. 물이 풍족했기에 굵은 가지들이 많아졌고 잔가지들도 길게 뻗어 자랐다.
6.  공중의 모든 새들은 그의 굵은 가지에 둥지를 틀었다. 그리고 들판의 모든 짐승들은 그의 잔가지들 아래서 새끼를 낳았으며 모든 위대한 민족들은 그의 그늘 아래 살았다.
7.  그의 뿌리는 풍족한 물에 닿아 있었기에 그 가지는 크기와 길이가 아름다웠다.
8.  하나님의 정원에 있는 백향목들이라도 그것을 능가하지 못했다. 잣나무도 그의 굵은 가지에 견줄 수 없었고 단풍나무도 그의 잔가지에 비할 바가 아니었다. 하나님의 정원에 있는 어떤 나무도 아름다움에 있어서 그것과 비교할 수가 없었다.
9.  그 풍성한 가지들로 내가 그것을 아름답게 만들었기 때문에 하나님의 정원 에덴에 있는 모든 나무들은 그것을 부러워했다.
10.  그러므로 주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 너는 키가 커서 네 꼭대기가 빽빽한 나뭇잎 위로 솟았고 그의 마음이 그의 키로 인해 교만해졌기 때문에
11.  내가 그것을 민족들의 우두머리의 손에 넘겨줄 것이니 그가 그것을 잘 처리할 것이다. 그 악함으로 인해 그것을 쫓아낼 것이다.
12.  가장 포악한 이방 민족이 그것을 잘라서 버려두었으므로 그 나무의 가지들은 산 위에, 또 모든 골짜기 위에 떨어졌다. 그 나무의 굵은 가지들은 그 땅의 모든 강가에 부러진 채 널려 있고 땅의 모든 백성은 그 나무의 그늘 아래서 떠나 그것을 버렸다.
13.  공중의 모든 새들은 그 쓰러진 나무에 둥지를 틀고 들판의 모든 짐승들은 그 나무의 가지들로 올 것이다.
14.  그러므로 물가에 있는 어떤 나무라도 다시는 그들의 큰 키로 자만하지 못할 것이고 그들의 꼭대기를 빽빽한 나뭇잎 위에 두지 못할 것이다. 또 물이 잘 공급되는 어떤 나무라도 그들의 높이에 이를 수 없을 것이다. 그들은 모두가 다 죽음에 넘겨져서 땅 아래 깊은 웅덩이로 내려가는 사람들 가운데 있게 될 것이다.’
15.  나 주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. ‘그 나무가 무덤으로 내려가던 그날에 내가 그 나무를 애곡하게 하고 그 위에 깊은 물을 덮었다. 내가 강물을 막으니 많은 강물이 멈추게 됐다. 내가 레바논으로 하여금 그 나무를 위해 애곡하게 했고 들판의 모든 나무들이 그로 인해 시들게 됐다.
16.  내가 그 나무를 웅덩이로 내려갈 사람들과 함께 음부로 내려가게 했을 때 그 나무가 넘어지는 소리 때문에 민족들을 벌벌 떨게 했다. 그러자 에덴의 모든 나무들, 곧 물이 잘 공급된 레바논의 가장 훌륭하고 가장 좋은 나무들은 땅 아래서 긍휼히 여김을 받았다.
17.  그들은 또한 그것과 함께 음부로, 칼에 맞아 학살당한 사람들에게로 내려갔다. 그것의 강한 팔이었던 사람들은 민족들 가운데서 그 나무의 그늘 밑에서 살았다.
18.  에덴의 나무들 가운데 그 영광과 장엄함을 너와 비교할 만한 것은 어떤 것이 있느냐? 그러나 너는 에덴의 나무들과 함께 땅 아래로 내려가게 될 것이다. 너는 칼에 맞아 학살당한 사람들과 함께 할례받지 않은 사람들 가운데 드러눕게 될 것이다.’이것은 바로와 그의 모든 무리에 대한 것이다. 주 여호와의 말이다.”

1.  And it came about in the eleventh year, in the third [month,] on the first of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me saying,
2.  "Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude, ' Whom are you like in your greatness?
3.  'Behold, Assyria [was] a cedar in Lebanon With beautiful branches and forest shade, And very high; And its top was among the clouds.
4.  'The waters made it grow, the deep made it high. With its rivers it continually extended all around its planting place, And it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.
5.  'Therefore its height was loftier than all the trees of the field And its boughs became many and its branches long Because of many waters as it spread them out.
6.  'All the birds of the heavens nested in its boughs, And under its branches all the beasts of the field gave birth, And all great nations lived under its shade.
7.  'So it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches; For its roots extended to many waters.
8.  'The cedars in God's garden could not match it; The cypresses could not compare with its boughs, And the plane trees could not match its branches. No tree in God's garden could compare with it in its beauty.
9.  'I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches, And all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, were jealous of it.
10.  'Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "Because it is high in stature, and it has set its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,
11.  therefore, I will give it into the hand of a despot of the nations; he will thoroughly deal with it. According to its wickedness I have driven it away.
12.  "And alien tyrants of the nations have cut it down and left it; on the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs have been broken in all the ravines of the land. And all the peoples of the earth have gone down from its shade and left it.
13.  "On its ruin all the birds of the heavens will dwell. And all the beasts of the field will be on its [fallen] branches
14.  in order that all the trees by the waters may not be exalted in their stature, nor set their top among the clouds, nor their well-watered mighty ones stand [erect] in their height. For they have all been given over to death, to the earth beneath, among the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit. "
15.  'Thus says the Lord GOD, "On the day when it went down to Sheol I caused lamentations; I closed the deep over it and held back its rivers. And [its] many waters were stopped up, and I made Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field wilted away on account of it.
16.  "I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I made it go down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit; and all the well-watered trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, were comforted in the earth beneath.
17.  "They also went down with it to Sheol to those who were slain by the sword; and those who were its strength lived under its shade among the nations.
18.  "To which among the trees of Eden are you thus equal in glory and greatness? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth beneath; you will lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who were slain by the sword. So is Pharaoh and all his multitude! '"declares the Lord GOD. "

1.  ויהי באחת עשרה שנה בשלישי באחד לחדש היה דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃
2.  בן אדם אמר אל פרעה מלך מצרים ואל המונו אל מי דמית בגדלך׃
3.  הנה אשור ארז בלבנון יפה ענף וחרש מצל וגבה קומה ובין עבתים היתה צמרתו׃
4.  מים גדלוהו תהום רממתהו את נהרתיה הלך סביבות מטעה ואת תעלתיה שלחה אל כל עצי השדה׃
5.  על כן גבהא קמתו מכל עצי השדה ותרבינה סרעפתיו ותארכנה פארתו ממים רבים בשלחו׃
6.  בסעפתיו קננו כל עוף השמים ותחת פארתיו ילדו כל חית השדה ובצלו ישבו כל גוים רבים׃
7.  וייף בגדלו בארך דליותיו כי היה שרשו אל מים רבים׃
8.  ארזים לא עממהו בגן אלהים ברושים לא דמו אל סעפתיו וערמנים לא היו כפארתיו כל עץ בגן אלהים לא דמה אליו ביפיו׃
9.  יפה עשיתיו ברב דליותיו ויקנאהו כל עצי עדן אשר בגן האלהים׃
10.  לכן כה אמר אדני יהוה יען אשר גבהת בקומה ויתן צמרתו אל בין עבותים ורם לבבו בגבהו׃
11.  ואתנהו ביד איל גוים עשו יעשה לו כרשעו גרשתהו׃
12.  ויכרתהו זרים עריצי גוים ויטשהו אל ההרים ובכל גאיות נפלו דליותיו ותשברנה פארתיו בכל אפיקי הארץ וירדו מצלו כל עמי הארץ ויטשהו׃
13.  על מפלתו ישכנו כל עוף השמים ואל פארתיו היו כל חית השדה׃
14.  למען אשר לא יגבהו בקומתם כל עצי מים ולא יתנו את צמרתם אל בין עבתים ולא יעמדו אליהם בגבהם כל שתי מים כי כלם נתנו למות אל ארץ תחתית בתוך בני אדם אל יורדי בור׃
15.  כה אמר אדני יהוה ביום רדתו שאולה האבלתי כסתי עליו את תהום ואמנע נהרותיה ויכלאו מים רבים ואקדר עליו לבנון וכל עצי השדה עליו עלפה׃
16.  מקול מפלתו הרעשתי גוים בהורדי אתו שאולה את יורדי בור וינחמו בארץ תחתית כל עצי עדן מבחר וטוב לבנון כל שתי מים׃
17.  גם הם אתו ירדו שאלה אל חללי חרב וזרעו ישבו בצלו בתוך גוים׃
18.  אל מי דמית ככה בכבוד ובגדל בעצי עדן והורדת את עצי עדן אל ארץ תחתית בתוך ערלים תשכב את חללי חרב הוא פרעה וכל המונה נאם אדני יהוה׃
