7월 13일 로마서 4:17 기록된 바 내가 너를 많은 민족의 조상으로 세웠다 하심과 같으니 그가 믿은 바 하나님은 죽은 자를 살리시며 없는 것을 있는 것으로 부르시는 이시니라
무슨 뜻입니까? 아브라함이 바라고 믿었던(18절) 이유가 바로 이 말씀 속에 있습니다. 아브라함이 그토록 늙은 나이에 자식을 봐서 아버지가 된다는 것은 어처구니없고 지극히 불가능한 일로 보였을 테지만, 하나님께서는 성취의 기미조차 볼 수 없는 이른 시기에 이미 그를 "열국의 아비" (창 17:4)라고 부르셨습니다. 이런 하나님께서 아들을 보리라 말씀하셨으므로 아브라함은 자신을 한 아이의 아비로 여겼습니다. 이것이 참된 믿음이니, 하나님께서 말씀하신 바를 믿고 선언하며, 아무것도 없어 보이는 허공으로 발을 내디뎌 든든한 반석을 찾는 것입니다.
그러므로 하나님께서 여러분에게 얻으리라 말씀하신 것을 담대히 선포하십시오. 그리하면 여러분이 믿는 그것을 하나님께서 이루실 것입니다. 하지만 먼저 참된 믿음을 보이고 온 마음을 다해 그분을 신뢰해야 합니다.
우리는 기꺼이 믿음으로 살되 다른 어떠한 길도 소망하거나 원해서는 안됩니다. 우리는 기꺼이 우리 주변의 모든 불을 끄고, 하늘의 별들도 가리며, 우리를 둘러싼 어둠과 위험 외에는 그 무엇으로도 살지 않아야 합니다. 그렇습니다. 하나님께서 우리 영혼에 믿음으로 빛나는 밝고 순결한 내면의 광채를 남겨 두시기만 한다면, 우리는 기꺼이 그렇게 해야 합니다.
불신의 횃대를 박차고 나서야 할 때가 되었습니다. 안전하다 여겼던 둥지를 떠나 믿음의 날개를 믿어야 할 때가 되었습니다. 여러분은 아직 시험해 보지 않은 날개로 이제 막 공중으로 나서는 어린 새와 같을 것입니다. 처음에는 땅으로 처박히는 듯 느껴질 수 있습니다. 자연의 어린 새들도 아마 그렇게 느낄 것입니다. 하지만 이 새들은 날개의 저항력이 있어 땅으로 떨어지지 않습니다. 그러나 날개가 말을 듣지 않는 경우라 해도, 어미 새가 순식간에 날아와서 떨어지는 새끼를 튼튼한 두 날개로 받쳐 구해 낼 것입니다.
하나님께서도 여러분을 이처럼 구해 내십니다. 그분을 믿으십시오. 그분의 오른손이 여러분을 붙드십니다(시 18:35). 하지만 아무것도 없는 허공에 어찌 발을 내딛느냐고 묻습니까? 허공으로 나선다는 것, 이것은 정확히 새에게나 내려야 할 명령 같습니다만, 우리는 허공이 거기에 있고 그 허공이란 겉 보기처럼 아무것도 없는 빈 장소가 아님을 압니다. 그리고 우리는 하나님의 약속이 거기에 있고, 그 약속이 결코 아무 내용도 없는 가공이 아님을 압니다. 할 말이 또 있습니까? “하지만 나의 불쌍하고 나약한 영혼을 그러한 힘이 받쳐 줄 것 같지가 않습니다.” 하나님께서 그렇게 말씀하셨습니까? “나의 이 미련하고 나약한 본성으로도 그 싸움에서 승리한다는 말입니까?' 하나님께서 그렇게 말씀하셨습니까? “나의 이 겁 많고 불안한 영혼도 안식을 찾을 수 있단 말입니까?” 하나님께서 그렇게 말씀하셨습니까?
하나님께서 그렇게 말씀하셨다면 설마 여러분이 그분을 거짓말쟁이라고 하겠습니까? 한 번 말씀하셨다면 그분께서 그대로 이루시지 않겠습니까? 그분께서 여러분에게 말씀, 틀림없는 약속의 말씀을 하셨으면, 토를 달 것이 아니라 무조건 믿으십시오. 여러분에게는 그분의 약속이 있을 뿐 아니라, 더 나아가 그분 자체가 있습니다. 그분께서 이처럼 확고히 말씀하십니다.
"내가 참으로 너희에게 이르노니"(눅12:5). 그분을 믿으십시오!

Trust in His Promises
God... calleth those things which be not as though they were — Rom 4:17
What does that mean? Why Abraham did this thing: he dared to believe God. It seemed an impossibility at his age that Abraham should become the father of a child; it looked incredible; and yet God called him a “father of many nations” before there was a sign of a child; and so Abraham called himself “father” because God called him so. That is faith; it is to believe and assert what God says. “Faith steps on seeming void, and finds the rock beneath.”
Only say you have what God says you have, and He will make good to you all you believe. Only it must be real faith, all there is in you must go over in that act of faith to God. — Crumbs
Be willing to live by believing and neither think nor desire to live in any other way. Be willing to see every outward light extinguished, to see the eclipse of every star in the blue heavens, leaving nothing but darkness and perils around, if God will only leave in thy soul the inner radiance, the pure bright lamp which faith has kindled. — Thomas C. The moment has come when you must get off the perch of distrust, out of the nest of seeming safety, and onto the wings of faith; just such a time as comes to the bird when it must begin to try the air. It may seem as though you must drop to the earth; so it may seem to the fledgling. It, too, may feel very like falling; but it does not fall —it’s pinions give it support, or, if they fail, the parent birds sweeps under and bears it upon its wings. Even so will God bear you. Only trust Him; “thou shalt be holden up.” “Well, but,” you say, “am I to cast myself upon nothing?” That is what the bird seems to have to do; but we know the air is there, and the air is not so unsubstantial as it seems. And you know the promises of God are there, and they are not unsubstantial at all. “But it seems an unlikely thing to come about that my poor weak soul should be girded with such strength.” Has God said it shall? “That my tempted, yielding nature shall be victor in the strife.” Has God said it shall? “That my timorous, trembling heart shall find peace?” Has God said it shall? for, if He has, you surely do not mean to give Him the lie! Hath he spoken, and shall He not do it? If you have gotten a word —“a sure word” of promise — take it implicitly, trust it absolutely.
