여러분이 다투는 악의 근원이 무엇이든, 여러분이 하나님 안에 있고 따라서 완전히 그분에 의해 둘러싸여 있다면, 당연한 말 같지만, 그 악이라는 것은 먼저 그분을 거쳐서 여러분에게 온다는 사실을 알아야 합니다. 이러하므로 우리는 우리 앞에 오는 모든 것에 대해 그분께 감사드릴 수 있습니다. 그렇다고 악과 함께 죄를 주셨으니 감사드리자는 뜻이 아닙니다. 우리는 그 죄를 벗어나게 하시고 극복하게 하시는 그 일로 인해 하나님께 감사를 드립니다. 하나님께서 우리의 삶을 끝없는 감사와 찬양으로 채우셔서, 모든 일이 축복이 되도록 하시기를 빕니다.
언젠가 보았는데 한 남자가 종이 위에 검은 점을 몇 개 그리고 있었습니 다. 우리 몇 사람이 같이 보았지만 검은 점들의 불규칙한 배열 외에는 달리 무슨 뜻이 있는지 알 수 없었습니다. 그 남자는 다시 선을 몇 줄 그려 넣고 쉼표를 찍었으며, 앞쪽에다 높은 음자리표를 추가했습니다. 그제야 우리는 그것이 악보임을 알았습니다. 우리는 그 음표들을 따라 소리를 내기 시작했고, 그것은 결국 이러한 찬송이 되었습니다.
하나님을 찬양하라, 모든 축복의 근원 되시니
여기 아래 있는 모든 피조물아, 다 찬양하라.
우리는 각자 자신의 삶에 여러 가지 검은 점이나 반점을 지니고 있는데, 왜 그 점들이 거기 있으며 왜 하나님께서 그 점들을 허락하셨는지 이해하지 못합니다. 하지만 하나님을 우리 삶에 모셔들이면 그분께서 이 점들을 적절히 배치하시고, 원하시는 선을 그려 넣으시며, 알맞은 자리에 쉼표를 찍어 우리를 어떠한 것들로부터 떠나 쉬게 하십니다. 그러한 과정을 마치신 후에는 이 검은 점들을 가지고 영광스러운 화음을 만들어 내실 것입니다. 그러므로 우리가 그분의 영광스러운 작업을 방해해서는 안 되겠습니다.
장조의 밝은 선율 알겠습니까?
단조 없이 말입니다.
화가의 그림 아름답겠습니까?
땅과 바다의 그늘 없이 말입니다.
어찌 행복의 의미 알겠으며, 그토록
낮이 밝음을 어찌 느끼겠습니까?
슬픔이 무엇인지 몰랐다면, 밤의 어둠
오래도록 응시하지 않았다면 말입니다.
많은 사람들이 엄청난 어려움에 빚지고서 삶의 위대함에 이르렀습니다. 오르간 연주자가 검은 건반을 누를 때도 흰 건반을 누를 때처럼 소리가 아름답습니다. 하지만 이 악기의 능력을 남김없이 드러내려면, 연주자는 필히 두 건반을 모두 눌러야 합니다.

We Need Minor Keys Too
Giving thanks always for all things unto God — Eph 5:20
No matter what the source of the evil, if you are in God and surrounded by Him as by an atmosphere, all evil has to pass through Him before it comes to you. Therefore you can thank God for everything that comes, not for the sin of it, but for what God will bring out of it and through it. May God make our lives thanksgiving and perpetual praise, then He will make everything a blessing.
We once saw a man draw some black dots. We looked and could make nothing of them but an irregular assemblage of black dots. Then he drew a few lines, put in a few rests, then a clef at the beginning, and we saw these black dots were musical notes. On sounding them we were singing,
“Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures here below.”
There are many black dots and black spots in our lives, and we cannot understand why they are there or why God permitted them to come. But if we let God come into our lives, and adjust the dots in the proper way, and draw the lines He wants, and separate this from that, and put in the rests at the proper places; out of the black dots and spots in our lives He will make a glorious harmony. Let us not hinder Him in this glorious work! — C. H. P.
