10월 18일 창세기 15:13-14
13. 여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 반드시 알라 네 자손이 이방에서 객이 되어 그들을 섬기겠고 그들은 사백 년 동안 네 자손을 괴롭히리니
14. 그들이 섬기는 나라를 내가 징벌할지며 그 후에 네 자손이 큰 재물을 이끌고 나오리라
하나님께서 내게 약속하신 축복의 일부는 지체되고 고통스러운 것임을 나는 분명히 압니다. 아브라함 생전에 성취가 요원해 보일 만큼 지체된 하나님의 약속은 그 후손에 이르러서도 끝없이 지체되는 듯했습니다. 하지만 결국 지체였을 뿐 약속은 성취되었으니, 그 후손들이 "큰 재물을 이끌고" 나왔던 것입니다.
하나님께서는 지체하심으로 나를 시험하시고, 그 지체와 함께 고난이 뒤따를 것입니다. 하지만 그 모든 것에도 하나님의 약속은 든든히 섭니다. 내게는 그리스도 안에서 맺은 새 언약이 있고, 내게 필요한 일상의 작은 축복들을 주시겠다는 거룩한 약속이 있습니다. 지체와 고난은 약속하신 축복의 일부요 한 과정입니다. 그러므로 그러한 지체로 인해 오늘 하나님을 찬양하는 내가 되었으면 좋겠습니다. “강하고 담대하며 여호와를 바랄지어다" (시 27:14) 하시는 말씀처럼 말입니다.
그대 두 입술 열어 호소한 기도, 몇 년에 이르도록
고통스러운 가슴으로 바친 그 기도, 아직 응답이 없는가?
믿음은 지치고 희망은 떠나려 하는가?
그대 흘린 눈물 모두 헛되다 여기는가?
아버지께서 그대의 기도 듣지 않으셨다 말하지 말라.
언제, 어디선가 그대의 소망 이루리니.
아직 응답이 없는가? 허락되지 않았다 말하지 말라.
그대의 일 아직 완전히 끝나지 않았을 터이니.
그대의 기도 첫마디 나오는 순간 그 일 이미 시작되었고
아버지께서는 한번 시작한 일 반드시 끝내시리니.
그대 그 자리에서 그침 없이 기도의 향 피우면
언제, 어디선가 그분의 영광 보게 되리니..
아직 응답이 없는가? 믿음에 응답 없는 법 없으니,
그 두 다리 반석 위에 견고히 섰음이라.
그 믿음 어떠한 폭풍에도 꺾임이 없고
지축을 울리는 천둥에도 흔들리지 않으리.
전능하신 이께서 기도 들으셨음을 알고
그 믿음 외치니, "이루어지리이다.” 언제, 어디선가.

Delayed
Know of a surety that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs; ... they shall afflict them four hundred years;... and afterward they shall come out with great substance — Gen 15:12-14
An assured part of God’s pledged blessing to us is delay and suffering. A delay in Abram’s own lifetime that seemed to put God’s pledge beyond fulfillment was followed by seemingly unendurable delay of Abram’s descendants. But it was only a delay: they “came out with great substance.” The pledge was redeemed.
God is going to test me with delays; and with the delays will come suffering, but through it all stands God’s pledge: His new covenant with me in Christ, and His inviolable promise of every lesser blessing that I need. The delay and the suffering are part of the promised blessing; let me praise Him for them today; and let me wait on the Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen my heart. — C. G. Trumbull
Unanswered yet the prayer your lips have pleaded
In agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail? Is hope departing?
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer;
You shall have your desire sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Nay do not say ungranted;
Perhaps your work is not yet wholly done.
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what He has begun.
If you will keep the incense burning there,
His glory you shall see sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered,
Her feet are firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storms she stands undaunted,
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock.
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, “It shall be done”— sometime, somewhere.
