10월 26일 마태복음 14:23 무리를 보내신 후에 기도하러 따로 산에 올라가시니라 저물매 거기 혼자 계시더니
그리스도 예수께서는 인간이기도 하셨으니, 절대 고독의 필요성을 절감하고 온전히 그분 혼자서 그분 자신과만 대면해야 했습니다. 우리는 타인들과 끝없이 뒤섞여 사는 것이 얼마나 힘들고 지치는 일인지 압니다. 예수께서도 한 인간으로서 이 점을 아시고 다시 기운을 차리기 위해 혼자 계셔야 할 필요성을 느끼셨습니다. 그분에게 고독은 그분의 높은 사명과 인간적인 약함을 깨닫고 아버지께 온전히 기댄다는 면에서도 대단히 중요했습니다.
하나님의 자녀인 우리에게야 이처럼 아버지와 함께하며 삶에서 만나는 영적인 문제들을 아뢰는 절대 고독의 시간이 얼마나 더 많이 필요하겠습니까. 이 고독과 친교라는 특별한 시간이 없어도 괜찮은 이는 우리 주님뿐이었습니다. 하지만 그분께서도 혼자 계시는 시간 없이는 그분 일에 필요한 힘과 능력을 온전히 유지할 수 없었고, 아버지와의 사귐도 그러했습니다. 하나님께서 원하시는 바, 그분의 모든 종들은 이 복된 습관을 알아서 실천해야 합니다. 그분의 교회는 이 높고 거룩한 특권을 깨닫도록 그분의 자녀들을 훈련해야 합니다. 또 모든 신자들은 하나님만을 위한 시간의 중요성을 깨달아야 합니다.
오, 하나님을 온전히 나 혼자 독차지한다는 이 생각이여, 나를 온전히 그분 혼자 독차지한다는 이 앎이여!!
19세기 작가요 프랑스 낭만주의 시의 선구자라 할 라마르틴이 자신의 책에 그 모친에 관한 이야기를 썼습니다. 그의 어머니는 날마다 집 정원의 한적한 곳으로 가서 일정한 시간을 보냈는데, 그 시간만큼은 누구도 감히 간섭하지 못했다고 합니다. 그 어머니에게 그곳은 주님의 거룩한 동산이었습니다.
뿔라와 같은 땅이 없는 이들은 어찌합니까! (사 62: 4 참조) 예수께서 말씀하셨습니다. "네 골방에 들어가 문을 닫고...... 기도하라" (마 6:6). 이 고독이야말로 하나님께서 우리 삶에 허락하신 것들의 근원에서 흘러나오는 깊고 신비한 진리를 깨닫는 장소이기 때문입니다.
묵상
영혼이여, 그리스도와 둘이서만 있는 법을 연습하십시오! 성경은 말합니다. "혼자 계실 때에 그 제자들에게 모든 것을 해석하시더라" (막 4:34). 이 구절의 참됨을 의심하지 마십시오. 여러분의 삶에도 동일하게 적용될 수 있습니다.
실제로 그런가 알고 싶거든 예수께서 하신 대로 사람들을 물리치십시오
(마 14:22 참조), “하나씩 하나씩 나가고 오직 예수와 여러분만 남을 때까지"(요. 8:9) 모두 보내십시오. 여러분 자신을 세상에 남은 단 한 사람으로, 혹은 온 우주에 남은 유일한 인간으로 생각해 보았습니까?
여러분이 우주에 남은 단 한 사람이면 여러분 머릿속에는 “하나님과 나......” 라는 생각밖에 없을 것입니다. 하지만 하나님께서는 이미 그렇게 여러분에게 가까이 계십니다. 그분께서는 저 끝없는 우주 공간에 그분과 여러분 의 심장만 고동친다는 듯이 가까이 계십니다.
오 영혼이여, 고독을 연습하십시오! 사람들 물리치는 법을 연습하고, 가슴의 고요를 연습하십시오! 그 장엄한 노래 "하나님과 나! 하나님과 나!"를 연습하십시오! 천사가 여러분에게 오는 사람들 막으려고 애쓰니 다른 사람 들이려고 하지 마십시오! 미안한 마음 들어도 괜찮습니다. 예수님과 만날 때는!!

An Hour In The Garden
He went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when evening was come, he was there alone — Matt 14:23
The man Christ Jesus felt the need of perfect solitude — Himself alone, entirely by Himself, alone with Himself. We know how much intercourse with men draws us away from ourselves and exhausts our powers. The man Christ Jesus knew this, too, and felt the need of being by Himself again, of gathering all His powers, of realizing fully His high destiny, His human weakness, His entire dependence on the Father.
How much more does the child of God need this — himself alone with spiritual realities, himself alone with God the Father. If ever there were one who could dispense with special seasons for solitude and fellowship, it was our Lord. But He could not do His work or maintain His fellowship in full power, without His quiet time.
Would God that every servant of His understood and practiced this blessed art, and that the Church knew how to train its children into some sense of this high and holy privilege, that every believer may and must have his time when he is indeed himself alone with God. Lamertine speaks in one of his books of a secluded walk in his garden where his mother always spent a certain hour of the day, upon which nobody ever dreamed for a moment of intruding. It was the holy garden of the Lord to her. Poor souls that have no such Beulah land! Seek thy private chamber, Jesus says. It is in the solitude that we catch the mystic notes that issue from the soul of things.
A MEDITATION
My soul, practice being alone with Christ! It is written that when they were alone He expounded all things to His disciples. Do not wonder at the saying; it is true to thine experience. If thou wouldst understand thyself send the multitude away. Let them go out one by one till thou art left alone with Jesus. … Hast thou ever pictured thyself the one remaining creature in the earth, the one remaining creature in all the starry worlds?
In such a universe thine every thought would be “God and I! God and I!” And yet He is as near to thee as that — as near as if in the boundless spaces there throbbed no heart but His and thine. Practice that solitude, O my soul! Practice the expulsion of the crowd! Practice the stillness of thine own heart! Practice the solemn refrain “God and I! God and I!” Let none interpose between thee and thy wrestling angel! Thou shalt be both condemned and pardoned when thou shalt meet Jesus alone! — George Matheson
