11월 10일 로마서 4:18 아브라함이 바랄 수 없는 중에 바라고 믿었으니 이는 네 후손이 이같으리라 하신 말씀대로 많은 민족의 조상이 되게 하려 하심이라
아브라함의 믿음은 여호와의 능력과 신실하심에 완벽히 동의하고 있었던 것 같습니다.
자신의 외부 환경을 고려했을 때는 하나님의 약속의 실현을 기대할 만한 이유가 전혀 없었습니다. 하지만 그는 주님의 말씀을 믿었고, 후손들이 "하늘의 별과 같이 번성하게” (창 26:4) 될 때를 고대했습니다.
사랑하는 영혼들이여, 여러분 앞에는 약속이 하나만 있지 아니하고 아브라함의 경우처럼 무수한 약속이 있습니다. 게다가 여러분이 삶의 모범으로 삼을 만한 신실한 이들이 많습니다. 그러므로 확신을 가지고 하나님의 말씀에 의지하는 것이 여러분에게 유익합니다. 그분께서 비록 도움을 늦추시고, 여러분의 상황이 점점 더 악화되더라도 약해지지 마십시오. 여러분은 다만 용기를 내며 기뻐해야 하는데, 대체로 하나님께서는 우리가 전혀 기대하고 있지 않을 때 우리를 구하러 나서서 당신의 영광스러운 약속을 놀랍도록 성취하시기 때문입니다.
그분께서는 대개 우리가 절박하기까지 기다리셨다가 도와주십니다. 그렇게 절박해야 구하러 오시는 그분의 손이 우리 눈에 확연히 드러나는 것입니다. 그렇습니다. 그분께서 이 방법을 사용하심은 우리의 흔한 습관대로 보고 느낄 수 있는 어떤 것에 의지하지 않고 오로지 당신의 말씀, 어떠한 상황에서도 늘 기댈 수 있는 그 말씀에만 의지하도록 하기 위함입니다. 기억하십시오. 우리의 눈으로 보는 것을 그만둬야 믿음이 일합니다. 그리 고 어려움이 클수록 믿음의 일이 쉬워지는데, 이는 우리 눈에 자연적인 해결책이 보이면 믿음을 발휘할 수 없기 때문입니다. 우리의 자연적 전망과 기대가 요원할수록 믿음은 더욱 쉽게 일합니다.

Faith Triumphs
Under hopeless circumstances he hopefully believed — Rom 4:18
Abraham’s faith seemed to be in a thorough correspondence with the power and constant faithfulness of Jehovah. In the outward circumstances in which he was placed, he had not the greatest cause to expect the fulfillment of the promise. Yet he believed the Word of the Lord, and looked forward to the time when his seed should be as the stars of heaven for multitude.
O my soul, thou hast not one single promise only, like Abraham, but a thousand promises, and many patterns of faithful believers before thee: it behooves thee, therefore, to rely with confidence upon the Word of God. And though He delayeth His help, and the evil seemeth to grow worse and worse, be not weak, but rather strong, and rejoice, since the most glorious promises of God are generally fulfilled in such a wondrous manner that He steps forth to save us at a time when there is the least appearance of it.
He commonly brings His help in our greatest extremity, that His finger may plainly appear in our deliverance. And this method He chooses that we may not trust upon anything that we see or feel, as we are always apt to do, but only upon His bare Word, which we may depend upon in every state. — C. H. Remember it is the very time for faith to work when sight ceases. The greater the difficulties, the easier for faith; as long as there remain certain natural prospects, faith does not get on even as easily as where natural prospects fail. — George Mueller
