10월 20일 스펄전 아침묵상 “범사에 그에게까지 자랄지라.” [에베소서 4장 14절]

"Grow up into him in all things" (Ephesians 4: 15).

Many Christians remain stunted and dwarfed in spiritual things.  They exist but do not "grow up into him all things."  But should we rest content with being in the green blade when we might advance to the ear and eventually ripen into the full corn in the ear?  Should we be satisfied to believe in Christ and to say, "I am safe," without wishing to know in our own experience more of the fullness which is to be found in Him?  It should not be so.  We should, as good traders in heaven's market, covet to be enriched in the knowledge of Jesus.  It is all very well to keep other men's vineyards, but we must not neglect our own spiritual growth and ripening.  Why should it always be winter time in our hearts?  We must have our seedtime, it is true; but, Oh, for a springtime and a summer season which will give promise of an early harvest!  If we would ripen in grace, we must live near to Jesus.  We must hold sweet communion with Him.  We must come near, as John did, and pillow our head on His breast.  Then we will find ourselves advancing in holiness, love, faith, and hope--in every precious gift.  As the sun rises first on mountaintops and gilds them with its light, it is one of the most delightful contemplations in the world to notice the glow of the Spirit's light on the head of a saint who has risen up in spiritual stature.

요절 : "오직 사랑 안에서 참된 것을 하여 범사에 그에게까지 자랄지라 그는 머리니 곧 그리스도라"(엡4:15)

많은 그리스도인들은 신앙의 성장이 멈춘 채 난쟁이(위축상태)로 남아 있습니다. 그들은 비록 존재하지만 "범사에 그에게까지 자라지 못하고 있습니다." 곡식의 푸른 잎사귀가 이삭으로 자라 그 이삭이 완전한 곡식알로 점차 익어야 할 때, 푸른 잎사귀 상태에 그대로 있는데도 우리가 만족할 수 있겠습니까? 그리스도 안에서만 발견될 수 있는 그리스도의 충만함을 우리 자신의 경험속에서 더 알기를 원함이 없이, 그리스도를 믿고, "나는 안전하다"라고 말하는 것으로 우리가 만족해야 합니까? 그래서는 안됩니다. 천국시장의 선한 거래자(상인)들인 우리는 예수님을 아는 지식이 더욱 풍성해지길 욕심내야합니다. 다른 사람들의 포도원들을 지켜 주는 것은 아주 매우 잘하는 일입니다. 그러나 우리는 우리 자신의 영적 성장과 성숙을 게을리 해서는 안됩니다. 우리의 마음은 왜 늘 겨울철 같이 차갑습니까?

우리는 씨뿌리는 파종기가 있어야 합니다. 그것은 사실입니다.(즉 실제적으로 그렇습니다) 그러나 씨뿌리는 봄철도 있어야 하고 이른 수확을 약속해줄 여름철도 있어야 합니다. 만일 우리가 은혜 안에서 성숙하자면, 우리는 예수님 가까이 살아야 합니다. 즉 우리는 예수님과 늘 달콤한 친교를 유지해야 합니다. 사도 요한이 했던 것처럼 가까이 가서 주님의 가슴에 우리의 머리를 기대야 합니다.(즉 예수님의 가슴을 우리의 베개로 의지해야 합니다.)(역자주1)

그러면 우리는 거룩함, 사랑, 믿음, 소망등과 같은 모든 소중한 은사가 자라 감을 우리 자신이 알게 될 것입니다. 마치 태양이 동쪽 산봉오리 위로 솟아 올라 그 일출의 빛으로 온 봉오리들을 황금빛으로 빛나게 하는 광경이 절경인 것처럼, 영적 키(신장)가 높이 자란 성도들의 머리 위에 빛나는 성령의 빛의 작열(灼熱, 새빨갛게 단 빛)(즉 성령의 불 꽃)을 주시하는 것은 이 세상에서 가장 즐거운 응시(凝視)의 장면들 중의하나 일 것입니다.(역자주2)
