"So to walk even as he walked" (1 John 2: 6).

Why should Christians imitate Christ?  They should do it for their own sakes.  If they desire to be in a healthy state of soul--if they would escape the sickness of sin and enjoy the vigor of growing grace, let Jesus be their model.  There is nothing which can so assist you to walk toward heaven with good speed, as wearing the image of Jesus on your heart to rule all its actions.  It is when, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you are enabled to walk with Jesus in His very footsteps, that you are most happy and most known to be the sons of God.  Next, for faith's sake, strive to be like Jesus.  Faith has been sorely shot at by cruel enemies but has not been wounded half as dangerously by its enemies as by its friends. Who made those wounds in the fair hand of godliness?  The professor who used the dagger of hypocricy.  The man who enters the fold, being nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing and worries the flock more than the lion outside.  There is no weapon half as deadly as a Judas-kiss.  Inconsistent professors injure the gospel more than the sneering critic or the infidel.  But especially for Christ's own sake, imitate His example.  Christian, do you love your Savior?  Is His name precious to you?  Would you see the kingdom of the world become His?  Is it your desire that He should be glorified?  Are you longing for souls to be won to Him?  If so, imitate Jesus.  Be an epistle of Christ, known and read of all men.

"그의 행하시는 대로 자기도 행할지니라" (요1 2: 6). 

왜 기독교인들은 그리스도를 모방해야 합니까?  그들은 자기 자신을 위해서 그렇게 해야 합니다.  그들의 영혼이 건강하기를 바란다면--죄의 질병을 피하고 증가하는 은혜의 활력을 누리고자 한다면 예수님이 그들의 모델이 되게 하십시오.  예수님의 이미지를 그대의 마음에 입어 마음의 모든 행동들을 다스리게 하는 것만큼 그대가 천국을 향하여 빠른 속도로 걸어가는 것을 도울 수 있는 것은 없습니다.  성령의 권능에 의해서 예수님의 발자국마다 그분과 함께 걸을 수 있게 되었을 때 그대는 가장 행복하고 하나님의 아들로서 가장 알려지게 됩니다.  다음으로 믿음을 위해서 예수님과 같아지려고 노력하십시오.  잔인한 적이 믿음을 겨냥하여 쓰라리게 공격했지만 믿음을 더 위험하게 상처를 입힌 것은 그것의 적이 아니라 친구입니다.  경건함의 고운 손에 누가 상처를 입혔습니까?  위선의 단검을 사용하는, 기독교인임을 자처하는 사람입니다.  양의 옷을 입은 늑대일 뿐이면서 우리 안에 들어가 바깥에 있는 사자보다 더 양떼를 물어뜯는 사람입니다.  유다의 입 맞춤처럼 치명적인 무기는 없습니다.  일관성 없는 신자들은 비웃는 비판자나 비신자 보다 더 복음에 상처를 줍니다.  그러나 특히 예수님을 위해서 그분의 예(例)를 모방하십시오.  기독교인이여, 그대는 그대의 구세주를 사랑합니까?  그분의 이름이 그대에게 소중합니까?  그대는 세상의 왕국이 그분의 나라가 되는 것을 보고자 합니까?  그분이 영광 받으시는 것이 그대가 바라는 것입니까?  그대는 그분이 사람들의 영혼을 얻으시기를 갈망합니까?  그렇다면 예수님을 모방하십시오.  모든 사람들에게 알려지고 읽혀지는 그리스도의 서신(書信)이 되십시오.
