10월 29일 (저녁의 묵상) ○ 제목: 눈이 가리워져서 ○ 요절: "저희의 눈이 가리워져서 그인 줄 알아보지 못하거늘."(눅 24:16)   제자들은 예수님을 알아보아야 했습니다. 그들은 자주 그분의 음성을 들었습니다. 그리고 빈번히 그분의 상한 얼굴을 주시(응시)했습니다. 그런데 그것은 그대에게도 마찬가지지요? 그대는 근래 예수님을 본적이 없습니다. 그대는 그분의 식탁에 간 적이 있습니다. 그러나 그대는 거기에서 그분을 만나지 못했습니다. 오늘밤 그대는 숨은(남 모르는) 고뇌 속에 있을지도 모릅니다.    그분이 "내니 두려워 말라"(요 6:20)라고 분명히 말씀하시지만, 그대는 그분을 분간(식별)할 수 없습니다. 우리의 눈은 그분을 보지 못하고 있습니다. 우리는 그분의 음성을 압니다. 우리는 그분의 얼굴을 들여다보았습니다. 우리는 그분의 가슴에(요한처럼) 우리의 머리를 기댄 적이 있습니다.    그리스도께서 우리 가까이 계시지만, 우리는 "오, 내가 어디서 그분을 찾을지 알기만 한다면!" 라고 말합니다(주1). 우리는 예수님을 당연히 알아보아야 합니다. 왜냐하면 우리는 그분의 모습(image)을 비춰 주는 성경을 갖고 있기 때문입니다.    그러나 우리가 그 귀중한 책을 펴지만 가장 사랑하는 분(주님)을 전혀 알아보지 못할 수도 있습니다. 예수님은 말씀의 백합들 속에서 기다리십니다. 그대는 그 백합꽃 사이로 걷고 있습니다. 그러나(애석하게도) 그대는 그분을 보지 못합니다. 주님은 그의 백성들과 친교를 나누시기 위하여, 하나님 아버지께서 날이 서늘할 때에 아담과 하셨던 것처럼, 성경의 숲속 사이를 거닐고 계십니다(주2).    그대는 비록 주님이 거기에 계시지만 그대는 성경의 동산에서 그분을 볼 수 없습니다. 왜 우리는 그분을 보지 못합니까? 그것은 제자들의 경우처럼 우리의 경우에도 불신앙의 탓으로 돌려야 합니다. 분명히 그들(엠마오로 가던 제자들)은 예수님을 만나리라고 기대하지 않았습니다. 그래서 그들은 그분을 알아보지 못했습니다. 영적인 것들에 있어서는 우리는 주님으로부터 우리가 기대한 것을 매우 큰 정도로 받습니다. 믿음만이 우리에게 예수님을 보게 할 수 있습니다. 그대는 이렇게 기도하십시오.    "주여, 나의 눈을 여사 나와 함께 하시는 구주를 보게 하소서." 라고.    주님을 보기를 원하는 것은 축복입니다. 그러나 그분을 응시하는 것은 훨씬 더 좋습니다. 그분을 찾는 사람들에게 그분은 친절하십니다(인자하십니다). 그분을 발견한 사람들에게, 그분은 상상을 할 수 없이(상상을 초월하는) 보배롭습니다(귀중합니다).  -----------------------------  주1. 욥 23:3  주2. 창 3:8  Evening "But their eyes were holden that they should not know him." Luke 24:16 The disciples ought to have known Jesus, they had heard his voice so often, and gazed upon that marred face so frequently, that it is wonderful they did not discover him. Yet is it not so with you also? You have not seen Jesus lately. You have been to his table, and you have not met him there. You are in a dark trouble this evening, and though he plainly says, "It is I, be not afraid," yet you cannot discern him. Alas! our eyes are holden. We know his voice; we have looked into his face; we have leaned our head upon his bosom, and yet, though Christ is very near us, we are saying "O that I knew where I might find him!" We should know Jesus, for we have the Scriptures to reflect his image, and yet how possible it is for us to open that precious book and have no glimpse of the Wellbeloved! Dear child of God, are you in that state? Jesus feedeth among the lilies of the word, and you walk among those lilies, and yet you behold him not. He is accustomed to walk through the glades of Scripture, and to commune with his people, as the Father did with Adam in the cool of the day, and yet you are in the garden of Scripture, but cannot see him, though he is always there. And why do we not see him? It must be ascribed in our case, as in the disciples', to unbelief. They evidently did not expect to see Jesus, and therefore they did not know him. To a great extent in spiritual things we get what we expect of the Lord. Faith alone can bring us to see Jesus. Make it your prayer, "Lord, open thou mine eyes, that I may see my Saviour present with me." It is a blessed thing to want to see him; but oh! it is better far to gaze upon him. To those who seek him he is kind; but to those who find him, beyond expression‎ is he dear!
