1And Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years. |
1וַיַּעַשׂ אָסָא הַטֹּוב וְהַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו׃ |

2Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God. |
2וַיָּסַר אֶת־מִזְבְּחֹות הַנֵּכָר וְהַבָּמֹות וַיְשַׁבֵּר אֶת־הַמַּצֵּבֹות וַיְגַדַּע אֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִים׃ |

3He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. |
3וַיֹּאמֶר לִיהוּדָה לִדְרֹושׁ אֶת־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲבֹותֵיהֶם וְלַעֲשֹׂות הַתֹּורָה וְהַמִּצְוָה׃ |

4He commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his laws and commands. |
4וַיָּסַר מִכָּל־עָרֵי יְהוּדָה אֶת־הַבָּמֹות וְאֶת־הַחַמָּנִים וַתִּשְׁקֹט הַמַּמְלָכָה לְפָנָיו׃ |

5He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him. |
5וַיִּבֶן עָרֵי מְצוּרָה בִּיהוּדָה כִּי־שָׁקְטָה הָאָרֶץ וְאֵין־עִמֹּו מִלְחָמָה בַּשָּׁנִים הָאֵלֶּה כִּי־הֵנִיחַ יְהוָה לֹו׃ |

6He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the LORD gave him rest. |
6וַיֹּאמֶר לִיהוּדָה נִבְנֶה אֶת־הֶעָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְנָסֵב חֹומָה וּמִגְדָּלִים דְּלָתַיִם וּבְרִיחִים עֹודֶנּוּ הָאָרֶץ לְפָנֵינוּ כִּי דָרַשְׁנוּ אֶת־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ דָּרַשְׁנוּ וַיָּנַח לָנוּ מִסָּבִיב וַיִּבְנוּ וַיַּצְלִיחוּ׃ ף |

7'Let us build up these towns,' he said to Judah, 'and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.' So they built and prospered. |
7וַיְהִי לְאָסָא חַיִל נֹשֵׂא צִנָּה וָרֹמַח מִיהוּדָה שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות אֶלֶף ס וּמִבִּנְיָמִן נֹשְׂאֵי מָגֵן וְדֹרְכֵי קֶשֶׁת מָאתַיִם וּשְׁמֹונִים אָלֶף כָּל־אֵלֶּה גִּבֹּורֵי חָיִל׃ |

8Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah, equipped with large shields and with spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin, armed with small shields and with bows. All these were brave fighting men. |
8וַיֵּצֵא אֲלֵיהֶם זֶרַח הַכּוּשִׁי בְּחַיִל אֶלֶף אֲלָפִים וּמַרְכָּבֹות שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות וַיָּבֹא עַד־מָרֵשָׁה׃ |

9Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with a vast army and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. |
9וַיֵּצֵא אָסָא לְפָנָיו וַיַּעַרְכוּ מִלְחָמָה בְּגֵיא צְפַתָה לְמָרֵשָׁה׃ |

10Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. |
10וַיִּקְרָא אָסָא אֶל־יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו וַיֹּאמַר יְהוָה אֵין־עִמְּךָ לַעְזֹור בֵּין רַב לְאֵין כֹּחַ עָזְרֵנוּ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ כִּי־עָלֶיךָ נִשְׁעַנּוּ וּבְשִׁמְךָ בָאנוּ עַל־הֶהָמֹון הַזֶּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אַתָּה אַל־יַעְצֹר עִמְּךָ אֱנֹושׁ׃ ס |

11Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, 'LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.' |
11וַיִּגֹּף יְהוָה אֶת־הַכּוּשִׁים לִפְנֵי אָסָא וְלִפְנֵי יְהוּדָה וַיָּנֻסוּ הַכּוּשִׁים׃ |

12The LORD struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, |
12וַיִּרְדְּפֵם אָסָא וְהָעָם אֲשֶׁר־עִמֹּו עַד־לִגְרָר וַיִּפֹּל מִכּוּשִׁים לְאֵין לָהֶם מִחְיָה כִּי־נִשְׁבְּרוּ לִפְנֵי־יְהוָה וְלִפְנֵי מַחֲנֵהוּ וַיִּשְׂאוּ שָׁלָל הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד׃ |
|
13and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar. Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the LORD and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder. |
13וַיַּכּוּ אֵת כָּל־הֶעָרִים סְבִיבֹות גְּרָר כִּי־הָיָה פַחַד־יְהוָה עֲלֵיהֶם וַיָּבֹזּוּ אֶת־כָּל־הֶעָרִים כִּי־בִזָּה רַבָּה הָיְתָה בָהֶם׃ |
|
14They destroyed all the villages around Gerar, for the terror of the LORD had fallen upon them. They plundered all these villages, since there was much booty there. |
14וְגַם־אָהֳלֵי מִקְנֶה הִכּוּ וַיִּשְׁבּוּ צֹאן לָרֹב וּגְמַלִּים וַיָּשֻׁבוּ יְרוּשָׁלִָם׃ ס |

15They also attacked the camps of the herdsmen and carried off droves of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem. |
1아비야가 그의 조상들과 함께 누우매 다윗 성에 장사되고 그의 아들 아사가 대신하여 왕이 되니 그의 시대에 그의 땅이 십 년 동안 평안하니라
2아사가 그의 하나님 여호와 보시기에 선과 정의를 행하여
3이방 제단과 산당을 없애고 주상을 깨뜨리며 아세라 상을 찍고
4유다 사람에게 명하여 그 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 찾게 하며 그의 율법과 명령을 행하게 하고
5또 유다 모든 성읍에서 산당과 태양상을 없애매 나라가 그 앞에서 평안함을 누리니라
6여호와께서 아사에게 평안을 주셨으므로 그 땅이 평안하여 여러 해 싸움이 없은지라 그가 견고한 성읍들을 유다에 건축하니라
7아사가 일찍이 유다 사람에게 이르되 우리가 우리 하나님 여호와를 찾았으므로 이 땅이 아직 우리 앞에 있나니 우리가 이 성읍들을 건축하고 그 주위에 성곽과 망대와 문과 빗장을 만들자 우리가 주를 찾았으므로 주께서 우리 사방에 평안을 주셨느니라 하고 이에 그들이 성읍을 형통하게 건축하였더라
8아사의 군대는 유다 중에서 큰 방패와 창을 잡는 자가 삼십만 명이요 베냐민중에서 작은 방패를 잡으며 활을 당기는 자가 이십팔만 명이라 그들은 다 큰 용사였더라
9구스 사람 세라가 그들을 치려 하여 군사 백만 명과 병거 삼백 대를 거느리고 마레사에 이르매
10아사가 마주 나가서 마레사의 스바다 골짜기에 전열을 갖추고
11아사가 그의 하나님 여호와께 부르짖어 이르되 여호와여 힘이 강한 자와 약한 자 사이에는 주밖에 도와 줄 이가 없사오니 우리 하나님 여호와여 우리를 도우소서 우리가 주를 의지하오며 주의 이름을 의탁하옵고 이 많은 무리를 치러 왔나이다 여호와여 주는 우리 하나님이시오니 원하건대 사람이 주를 이기지 못하게 하옵소서 하였더니
12여호와께서 구스 사람들을 아사와 유다 사람들 앞에서 치시니 구스 사람들이 도망하는지라
13아사와 그와 함께 한 백성이 구스 사람들을 추격하여 그랄까지 이르매 이에 구스 사람들이 엎드러지고 살아 남은 자가 없었으니 이는 여호와 앞에서와 그의 군대 앞에서 패망하였음이라 노략한 물건이 매우 많았더라
14여호와께서 그랄 사면 모든 성읍 백성을 두렵게 하시니 무리가 그의 모든 성읍을 치고 그 가운데에 있는 많은 물건을 노략하고
15또 짐승 지키는 천막을 치고 양과 낙타를 많이 이끌고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔더라
