1Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened himself against Israel.
1וַיִּמְלֹךְ יְהֹושָׁפָט בְּנֹו תַּחְתָּיו וַיִּתְחַזֵּק עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
2He stationed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
2וַיִּתֶּן־חַיִל בְּכָל־עָרֵי יְהוּדָה הַבְּצֻרֹות וַיִּתֵּן נְצִיבִים בְּאֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה וּבְעָרֵי אֶפְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר לָכַד אָסָא אָבִיו׃
3The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals
3וַיְהִי יְהוָה עִם־יְהֹושָׁפָט כִּי הָלַךְ בְּדַרְכֵי דָּוִיד אָבִיו הָרִאשֹׁנִים וְלֹא דָרַשׁ לַבְּעָלִים׃
4but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel.
4כִּי לֵאלֹהֵי אָבִיו דָּרָשׁ וּבְמִצְוֹתָיו הָלָךְ וְלֹא כְּמַעֲשֵׂה יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
5The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.
5וַיָּכֶן יְהוָה אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה בְּיָדֹו וַיִּתְּנוּ כָל־יְהוּדָה מִנְחָה לִיהֹושָׁפָט וַיְהִי־לֹו עֹשֶׁר־וְכָבֹוד לָרֹב׃
6His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
6וַיִּגְבַּהּ לִבֹּו בְּדַרְכֵי יְהוָה וְעֹוד הֵסִיר אֶת־הַבָּמֹות וְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִים מִיהוּדָה׃ ף
7In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah.
7וּבִשְׁנַת שָׁלֹושׁ לְמָלְכֹו שָׁלַח לְשָׂרָיו לְבֶן־חַיִל וּלְעֹבַדְיָה וְלִזְכַרְיָה וְלִנְתַנְאֵל וּלְמִיכָיָהוּ לְלַמֵּד בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה׃
8With them were certain Levites-Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah-and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
8וְעִמָּהֶם הַלְוִיִּם שְׁמַעְיָהוּ וּנְתַנְיָהוּ וּזְבַדְיָהוּ וַעֲשָׂהאֵל [כ= וּשְׁמִרִימֹות] [ק= וּשְׁמִירָמֹות] וִיהֹונָתָן וַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ וְטֹובִיָּהוּ וְטֹוב אֲדֹונִיָּה הַלְוִיִּם וְעִמָּהֶם אֱלִישָׁמָע וִיהֹורָם הַכֹּהֲנִים׃
9They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.
9וַיְלַמְּדוּ בִּיהוּדָה וְעִמָּהֶם סֵפֶר תֹּורַת יְהוָה וַיָּסֹבּוּ בְּכָל־עָרֵי יְהוּדָה וַיְלַמְּדוּ בָּעָם׃
10The fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not make war with Jehoshaphat.
10וַיְהִי פַּחַד יְהוָה עַל כָּל־מַמְלְכֹות הָאֲרָצֹות אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹות יְהוּדָה וְלֹא נִלְחֲמוּ עִם־יְהֹושָׁפָט׃
11Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs brought him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred goats.
11וּמִן־פְּלִשְׁתִּים מְבִיאִים לִיהֹושָׁפָט מִנְחָה וְכֶסֶף מַשָּׂא גַּם הָעַרְבִיאִים מְבִיאִים לֹו צֹאן אֵילִים שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁבַע מֵאֹות וּתְיָשִׁים שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁבַע מֵאֹות׃ ף
12Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah
12וַיְהִי יְהֹושָׁפָט הֹלֵךְ וְגָדֵל עַד־לְמָעְלָה וַיִּבֶן בִּיהוּדָה בִּירָנִיֹּות וְעָרֵי מִסְכְּנֹות׃
13and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem.
13וּמְלָאכָה רַבָּה הָיָה לֹו בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה וְאַנְשֵׁי מִלְחָמָה גִּבֹּורֵי חַיִל בִּירוּשָׁלִָם׃
14Their enrollment by families was as follows: From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;
14וְאֵלֶּה פְקֻדָּתָם לְבֵית אֲבֹותֵיהֶם לִיהוּדָה שָׂרֵי אֲלָפִים עַדְנָה הַשָּׂר וְעִמֹּו גִּבֹּורֵי חַיִל שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות אָלֶף׃ ס
15next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;
15וְעַל־יָדֹו יְהֹוחָןָן הַשָּׂר וְעִמֹּו מָאתַיִם וּשְׁמֹונִים אָלֶף׃ ס
16next, Amasiah son of Zicri, who volunteered himself for the service of the LORD, with 200,000.
16וְעַל־יָדֹו עֲמַסְיָה בֶן־זִכְרִי הַמִּתְנַדֵּב לַיהוָה וְעִמֹּו מָאתַיִם אֶלֶף גִּבֹּור חָיִל׃ ס
17From Benjamin: Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;
17וּמִן־בִּנְיָמִן גִּבֹּור חַיִל אֶלְיָדָע וְעִמֹּו נֹשְׁקֵי־קֶשֶׁת וּמָגֵן מָאתַיִם אָלֶף׃ ס
18next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle.
18וְעַל־יָדֹו יְהֹוזָבָד וְעִמֹּו מֵאָה־וּשְׁמֹונִים אֶלֶף חֲלוּצֵי צָבָא׃ ס
19These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
19אֵלֶּה הַמְשָׁרְתִים אֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ מִלְּבַד אֲשֶׁר־נָתַן הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּעָרֵי הַמִּבְצָר בְּכָל־יְהוּדָה׃ ף
1아사의 아들 여호사밧이 대신하여 왕이 되어 스스로 강하게 하여 이스라엘을 방어하되
2유다 모든 견고한 성읍에 군대를 주둔시키고 또 유다 땅과 그의 아버지 아사가 정복한 에브라임 성읍들에 영문을 두었더라
3여호와께서 여호사밧과 함께 하셨으니 이는 그가 그의 조상 다윗의 처음 길로 행하여 바알들에게 구하지 아니하고
4오직 그의 아버지의 하나님께 구하며 그의 계명을 행하고 이스라엘의 행위를 따르지 아니하였음이라
5그러므로 여호와께서 나라를 그의 손에서 견고하게 하시매 유다 무리가 여호사밧에게 예물을 드렸으므로 그가 부귀와 영광을 크게 떨쳤더라
6그가 전심으로 여호와의 길을 걸어 산당들과 아세라 목상들도 유다에서 제거하였더라
7그가 왕위에 있은 지 삼 년에 그의 방백들 벤하일과 오바댜와 스가랴와 느다넬과 미가야를 보내어 유다 여러 성읍에 가서 가르치게 하고
8또 그들과 함께 레위 사람 스마야와 느다냐와 스바댜와 아사헬과 스미라못과 여호나단과 아도니야와 도비야와 도바도니야 등 레위 사람들을 보내고 또 저희와 함께 제사장 엘리사마와 여호람을 보내었더니
9그들이 여호와의 율법책을 가지고 유다에서 가르치되 그 모든 유다 성읍들로 두루 다니며 백성들을 가르쳤더라
10여호와께서 유다 사방의 모든 나라에 두려움을 주사 여호사밧과 싸우지 못하게 하시매
11블레셋 사람들 중에서는 여호사밧에게 예물을 드리며 은으로 조공을 바쳤고 아라비아 사람들도 짐승 떼 곧 숫양 칠천칠백 마리와 숫염소 칠천칠백 마리를 드렸더라
12여호사밧이 점점 강대하여 유다에 견고한 요새와 국고성을 건축하고
13유다 여러 성에 공사를 많이 하고 또 예루살렘에 크게 용맹스러운 군사를 두었으니
14군사의 수효가 그들의 족속대로 이러하니라 유다에 속한 천부장 중에는 아드나가 으뜸이 되어 큰 용사 삼십만 명을 거느렸고
15그 다음은 지휘관 여호하난이니 이십팔만 명을 거느렸고
16그 다음은 시그리의 아들 아마시야니 그는 자기를 여호와께 즐거이 드린 자라 큰 용사 이십만 명을 거느렸고
17베냐민에 속한 자 중에 큰 용사 엘리아다는 활과 방패를 잡은 자 이십만 명을 거느렸고
18그 다음은 여호사밧이라 싸움을 준비한 자 십팔만 명을 거느렸으니
19이는 다 왕을 모시는 자요 이 외에 또 온 유다 견고한 성읍들에 왕이 군사를 두었더라
