1This is what the Sovereign LORD showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king's share had been harvested and just as the second crop was coming up. |
1כֹּה הִרְאַנִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וְהִנֵּה יֹוצֵר גֹּבַי בִּתְחִלַּת עֲלֹות הַלָּקֶשׁ וְהִנֵּה־לֶקֶשׁ אַחַר גִּזֵּי הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ |

2When they had stripped the land clean, I cried out, 'Sovereign LORD, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!' |
2וְהָיָה אִם־כִּלָּה לֶאֱכֹול אֶת־עֵשֶׂב הָאָרֶץ וָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה סְלַח־נָא מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב כִּי קָטֹן הוּא׃ |

3So the LORD relented. 'This will not happen,' the LORD said. |
3נִחַם יְהוָה עַל־זֹאת לֹא תִהְיֶה אָמַר יְהוָה׃ |
|
4This is what the Sovereign LORD showed me: The Sovereign LORD was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land. |
4כֹּה הִרְאַנִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וְהִנֵּה קֹרֵא לָרִב בָּאֵשׁ אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וַתֹּאכַל אֶת־תְּהֹום רַבָּה וְאָכְלָה אֶת־הַחֵלֶק׃ |

5Then I cried out, 'Sovereign LORD, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!' |
5וָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה חֲדַל־נָא מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב כִּי קָטֹן הוּא׃ |
|
6So the LORD relented. 'This will not happen either,' the Sovereign LORD said. |
6נִחַם יְהוָה עַל־זֹאת גַּם־הִיא לֹא תִהְיֶה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה׃ ס |
|
7This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. |
7כֹּה הִרְאַנִי וְהִנֵּה אֲדֹנָי נִצָּב עַל־חֹומַת אֲנָךְ וּבְיָדֹו אֲנָךְ׃ |

8And the LORD asked me, 'What do you see, Amos?' 'A plumb line,' I replied. Then the Lord said, 'Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer. |
8וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלַי מָה־אַתָּה רֹאֶה עָמֹוס וָאֹמַר אֲנָךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֲדֹנָי הִנְנִי שָׂם אֲנָךְ בְּקֶרֶב עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא־אֹוסִיף עֹוד עֲבֹור לֹו׃ |

9'The high places of Isaac will be destroyed and the sanctuaries of Israel will be ruined; with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.' |
9וְנָשַׁמּוּ בָּמֹות יִשְׂחָק וּמִקְדְּשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל יֶחֱרָבוּ וְקַמְתִּי עַל־בֵּית יָרָבְעָם בֶּחָרֶב׃ ף |

10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel: 'Amos is raising a conspiracy against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words. |
10וַיִּשְׁלַח אֲמַצְיָה כֹּהֵן בֵּית־אֵל אֶל־יָרָבְעָם מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר קָשַׁר עָלֶיךָ עָמֹוס בְּקֶרֶב בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא־תוּכַל הָאָרֶץ לְהָכִיל אֶת־כָּל־דְּבָרָיו׃ |

11For this is what Amos is saying: " 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely go into exile, away from their native land.' " |
11כִּי־כֹה אָמַר עָמֹוס בַּחֶרֶב יָמוּת יָרָבְעָם וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה מֵעַל אַדְמָתֹו׃ ס |

12Then Amaziah said to Amos, 'Get out, you seer! Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there. |
12וַיֹּאמֶר אֲמַצְיָה אֶל־עָמֹוס חֹזֶה לֵךְ בְּרַח־לְךָ אֶל־אֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה וֶאֱכָל־שָׁם לֶחֶם וְשָׁם תִּנָּבֵא׃ |
|
13Don't prophesy anymore at Bethel, because this is the king's sanctuary and the temple of the kingdom." |
13וּבֵית־אֵל לֹא־תֹוסִיף עֹוד לְהִנָּבֵא כִּי מִקְדַּשׁ־מֶלֶךְ הוּא וּבֵית מַמְלָכָה הוּא׃ ס |

14Amos answered Amaziah, "I was neither a prophet nor a prophet's son, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees. |
14וַיַּעַן עָמֹוס וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־אֲמַצְיָה לֹא־נָבִיא אָנֹכִי וְלֹא בֶן־נָבִיא אָנֹכִי כִּי־בֹוקֵר אָנֹכִי וּבֹולֵס שִׁקְמִים׃ |

15But the LORD took me from tending the flock and said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.' |
15וַיִּקָּחֵנִי יְהוָה מֵאַחֲרֵי הַצֹּאן וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי יְהוָה לֵךְ הִנָּבֵא אֶל־עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |

16Now then, hear the word of the LORD. You say, " 'Do not prophesy against Israel, and stop preaching against the house of Isaac.' |
16וְעַתָּה שְׁמַע דְּבַר־יְהוָה אַתָּה אֹמֵר לֹא תִנָּבֵא עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא תַטִּיף עַל־בֵּית יִשְׂחָק׃ |
|
17"Therefore this is what the LORD says: " 'Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword. Your land will be measured and divided up, and you yourself will die in a pagan country. And Israel will certainly go into exile, away from their native land.' " |
17לָכֵן כֹּה־אָמַר יְהוָה אִשְׁתְּךָ בָּעִיר תִּזְנֶה וּבָנֶיךָ וּבְנֹתֶיךָ בַּחֶרֶב יִפֹּלוּ וְאַדְמָתְךָ בַּחֶבֶל תְּחֻלָּק וְאַתָּה עַל־אֲדָמָה טְמֵאָה תָּמוּת וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה מֵעַל אַדְמָתֹו׃ ס |
1주 여호와께서 내게 보이신 것이 이러하니라 왕이 풀을 벤 후 풀이 다시 움돋기 시작할 때에 주께서 메뚜기를 지으시매
2메뚜기가 땅의 풀을 다 먹은지라 내가 이르되 주 여호와여 청하건대 사하소서 야곱이 미약하오니 어떻게 서리이까 하매
3여호와께서 이에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키셨으므로 이것이 이루어지지 아니하리라 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라
4주 여호와께서 또 내게 보이신 것이 이러하니라 주 여호와께서 명령하여 불로 징벌하게 하시니 불이 큰 바다를 삼키고 육지까지 먹으려 하는지라
5이에 내가 이르되 주 여호와여 청하건대 그치소서 야곱이 미약하오니 어떻게 서리이까 하매
6주 여호와께서 이에 대하여 뜻을 돌이켜 주 여호와께서 이르시되 이것도 이루지 아니하리라 하시니라
7또 내게 보이신 것이 이러하니라 다림줄을 가지고 쌓은 담 곁에 주께서 손에 다림줄을 잡고 서셨더니
8여호와께서 내게 이르시되 아모스야 네가 무엇을 보느냐 내가 대답하되 다림줄이니이다 주께서 이르시되 내가 다림줄을 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데 두고 다시는 용서하지 아니하리니
9이삭의 산당들이 황폐되며 이스라엘의 성소들이 파괴될 것이라 내가 일어나 칼로 여로보암의 집을 치리라 하시니라
10때에 벧엘의 제사장 아마샤가 이스라엘의 왕 여로보암에게 보내어 이르되 이스라엘 족속 중에 아모스가 왕을 모반하나니 그 모든 말을 이 땅이 견딜 수 없나이다
11아모스가 말하기를 여로보암은 칼에 죽겠고 이스라엘은 반드시 사로잡혀 그 땅에서 떠나겠다 하나이다
12아마샤가 또 아모스에게 이르되 선견자야 너는 유다 땅으로 도망하여 가서 거기에서나 떡을 먹으며 거기에서나 예언하고
13다시는 벧엘에서 예언하지 말라 이는 왕의 성소요 나라의 궁궐임이니라
14아모스가 아마샤에게 대답하여 이르되 나는 선지자가 아니며 선지자의 아들도 아니라 나는 목자요 뽕나무를 재배하는 자로서
15양 떼를 따를 때에 여호와께서 나를 데려다가 여호와께서 내게 이르시기를 가서 내 백성 이스라엘에게 예언하라 하셨나니
16이제 너는 여호와의 말씀을 들을지니라 네가 이르기를 이스라엘에 대하여 예언하지 말며 이삭의 집을 향하여 경고하지 말라 하므로
17여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 네 아내는 성읍 가운데서 창녀가 될 것이요 네 자녀들은 칼에 엎드러지며 네 땅은 측량하여 나누어질 것이며 너는 더러운 땅에서 죽을 것이요 이스라엘은 반드시 사로잡혀 그의 땅에서 떠나리라 하셨느니라
