6월 5일 이사야 7:11 너는 네 하나님 여호와께 한 징조를 구하되 깊은 데에서든지 높은 데에서든지 구하라 하시니
내 영혼아, 간구하고 간구하라,
하나님께서 네 청원에
넘치도록 행하시니,
거룩하신 분께 나아가,
그분 사랑의 창고에서 뽑아 쓰라.
그분께 모든 것을 맡기고
오늘을 시작하라.
그리하면 찾아오는 기쁨 있으리라,
예수께서 당신의 길로 행하시니!
우리는 하나님의 강한 빗소리 들을 때까지 쉬지 말고 기도하며 “주님을 기다려야" (사 8:17) 합니다. 큰 것을 구하지 말아야 할 이유는 없습니다. 아무리 큰 것이라도 믿음으로 구하면 틀림없이 받을 수 있을 것입니다. 그러니 용기를 가지고 끈질기게 주님을 기다리며 우리가 할 수 있는 일들을 해야겠습니다.
바람을 일으키거나 그 방향을 바꾸는 것은 우리가 할 수 있는 일이 아닙니다. 하지만 바람이 불 때 돛을 펼쳐 그 바람을 타는 것은 우리가 할 수 있는 일 입니다. 우리는 전기를 만들어 낼 수 없지만 전선에 연결하여 활용할 수는 있습니다. 우리는 하나님의 영을 우리 뜻대로 할 수 없지만 부름 받은 일을 준행함으로써 주님 앞에 우리 자신을 세워 둘 수 있고, 그로 인해 그분의 강력한 숨결의 영향과 능력을 덧입을 수는 있습니다.
오래전에 있었던 것처럼 크나큰 이적이 오늘날에는 있을 수 없습니까? 엘리야의 하나님은 어디 계십니까? 그분께서는 이 시대의 엘리야가 그분을 외쳐 부르기를 기다리고 계십니다.
성경의 위대한 성도들이라 해서 우리가 넘볼 수 없는 사람들은 아닙니다. 그들의 영적인 능력, 오늘날 우리의 신앙적 영웅이 될 수밖에 없었던 그들의 열정은 우리로서도 가능한 것들입니다. 그들이 보여준 믿음과 소망과 사랑을 우리 또한 보여줄 수 있다면, 그들과 마찬가지로 우리에게서도 놀라운 일들이 이루어질 것입니다. 엘리야가 몇 마디 말로써 문자 그대로 불과 비를 불러 내렸듯이, 우리 역시 입에서 나오는 단순한 기도만으로도 하늘로부터 하나님의 은혜로운 이슬과 그분의 영의 사르는 불을 능히 불러 내릴 수 있습니다. 우리에게 요구되는 것은, 엘리야처럼 믿음으로 온전하게 확신하며 그 기도를 드려야 한다는 것뿐입니다.

Thy God can do much more
Than thou canst ask;
Launch out on the Divine,
Draw from His love-filled store.
Trust Him with everything;
Begin today,
And find the joy that comes
When Jesus has His way!

We must keep on praying and waiting upon the Lord, until the sound of a mighty rain is heard. There is no reason why we should not ask for large things; and without doubt we shall get large things if we ask in faith, and have the courage to wait with patient perseverance upon Him, meantime doing those things which lie within our power to do.

“Cannot the same wonders be done now as of old? Where is the God of Elijah. He is waiting for Elijah to call on Him.”
The greatest saints who ever lived, whether under the Old or New Dispensation, are on a level which is quite within our reach. The same forces of the spiritual world which were at their command, and the exertion of which made them such spiritual heroes, are open to us also. If we had the same faith, the same hope, the same love which they exhibited, we would achieve marvels as great as those which they achieved. A word of prayer in our mouths would be as potent to call down the gracious dews and melting fires of God’s Spirit, as it was in Elijah’s mouth to call down literal rain and fire, if we could only speak the word with that full assurance of faith wherewith he said it. — Dr. Goulburn, Dean of Norwich
