9월 17일 사무엘상 3:18 "이는 여호와시니 선하신 대로 하실 것이니라."
내가 만일 모든 것에서 하나님을 본다면, 하나님께서 그 모든 것을 잠잠하게 하시고 또한 그 모든 것의 색조를 바꾸실 것입니다. 내게 슬픔을 가져다준 환경은 제거되지 않고 내 상황 역시 변함이 없겠지만, 그리스도께서 나의 주님이시오 주인으로서 내 슬픔 속에 들어오시면 "구원의 노래로 나를 두르"실 것입니다. 그분을 보고, 그분의 지혜와 능력 부족함이 없으며, 그분의 사랑 변치 않음을 확신하는 이 자세, 그분께서 나를 아무리 고통스럽게 다루셔도 그것은 결국 내 가장 깊은 영적 유익을 위한 것이라는 이 자세로, 우리는 사별과 슬픔과 고통과 상실의 한가운데서도 이처럼 말할 수 있습니다. "주신 이도 여호와시오 거두신 이도 여호와시니 여호와의 이름이 찬송을 받으실지니이다"
모든 것에서 하나님을 바라보는 일만이, 나를 힘들고 지치게 하는 사람들을 참아 내고 사랑하게 합니다. 그러므로 나는 다른 이들을, 하나님께서 내게 두신 온유하고 지혜로운 목적을 성취하시는 도구로 볼 것입니다. 거기서 더 나아가, 내게 축복이 된 그들에게 감사하는 마음마저 갖게 될 것입니다. 하나님을 바라보는 일 외에는 그 무엇으로도, 모든 불평과 반항적인 생각을 완전히 끝낼 수 없을 것입니다.
"내게 새로운 생각 주소서." 이렇게
말하며, 나는 잠 못 이루는 밤에 생각했다.
"소중한 영혼들을 위해 세상에
향유를 내어 오는 새로운 생각,
사람들에게 위에서 오는 것들 생각하게 하고,
섬기고 사랑하는 법 가르치며,
이기적인 모든 생각 내몰고, 그들이 다투는
죄를 털어 내게 하는 새로운 생각."
이 새로운 생각 내게 어떻게 왔는가,
나 무릎 꿇고 있을 때였다. 꿇고서
모든 것 아시는 그분께 내 슬픔
몰아내는 길 구할 때였다.
크든 작든 모든 것에서 하나님을 바라보라,
무슨 일이 닥치든 그분 찬양하라,
사나 죽으나, 고통에서나 슬픔에서나,
하나님을 바라보고 너의 대적을 이기라.
나 아침 날빛에 그분을 보았고
그분께서 그날을 찬란히 빛나게 하셨다.
나 한낮에 그분을 보았고
그분의 청량한 소나기 받아 누렸다.
저녁에, 지치고 슬픈 그 저녁에
그분 나를 도우시고 기쁨 주셨다.
한밤에, 뒤척이는 그 밤에
내 지친 영혼 그분께서 잠들게 하셨다.
크나큰 상실이 왔을 때 나 그분 보았고
그분 여전히 나 사랑하셨음을 알았다.
나 무거운 짐 져야 했을 때
그분께서 내 걱정 덜어 내셨음을 알았다.
나 아프고 슬프고 궁핍할 때
그분께서 내 마은 갈앉히시고 안식 주셨다.
내 시선 위로 돌려 그분 보았더니
내 가슴 즐거운 찬양으로 채우셨다.
이 생각, 어떤 이들에게는 낡은
것이었으나, 내게는 새로웠으니,
내게로 와서 삶의 길 밝히는 계시가 되었다.
우리 모두 이 길 밟으며 그날을 살아야 한다.
날마다 그날의 첫 빛이 열릴 때
우리 모두 눈으로 말고 믿음으로 걸을 테니까.
진실로 삶은 축복을 내온다,
우리가 모든 것에서 하나님을 볼 수 있다면.

God in Everything
It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good. — 1 Sam 3:18
“See God in everything, and God will calm and color all that thou dost see!” It may be that the circumstances of our sorrows will not be removed, their condition will remain unchanged; but if Christ, as Lord and Master of our life, is brought into our grief and gloom, “HE will compass us about with songs of deliverance.” To see HIM, and to be sure that His wisdom cannot err, His power cannot fail, His love can never change; to know that even His direst dealings with us are for our deepest spiritual gain, is to be able to say, in the midst of bereavement, sorrow, pain, and loss, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Nothing else but seeing God in everything will make us loving and patient with those who annoy and trouble us. They will be to us then only instruments for accomplishing His tender and wise purposes toward us, and we shall even find ourselves at last inwardly thanking them for the blessings they bring us. Nothing else will completely put an end to all murmuring or rebelling thoughts. — H. W. Smith.
“Give me a new idea,” I said,
While musing on a sleepless bed;
“A new idea that’ll bring to earth
A balm for souls of priceless worth;

See God, and overcome thy foe.
I saw HIM in the morning light,
HE made the day shine clear and bright;
I saw HIM in the noontide hour,
And gained from HIM refreshing shower.
At eventide, when worn and sad,
HE gave me help, and made me glad.
At midnight, when on tossing bed
My weary soul to sleep HE led.
I saw HIM when great losses came,
And found HE loved me just the same.
When heavy loads I had to bear,
I found HE lightened every care.
By sickness, sorrow, sore distress,
HE calmed my mind and gave me rest.
HE’s filled my heart with gladsome praise
Since I gave HIM the upward gaze.
’Twas new to me, yet old to some,
This thought that to me has become
A revelation of the way
We all should live throughout the day;
For as each day unfolds its light,
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight.
