10월 23일 열왕기상 8:56 여호와를 찬송할지로다 그가 말씀하신 대로 그의 백성 이스라엘에게 태평을 주셨으니 그 종 모세를 통하여 무릇 말씀하신 그 모든 좋은 약속이 하나도 이루어지지 아니함이 없도다
우리 인생길을 가는 동안 그분께서 아니라고 하신 그 하나하나의 이유를 우리는 언젠가 이해하게 될 것입니다. 하지만 이 삶에서도 그분께서 아니라고 하신 그 기도를 언제나 이루어 가십니다. 하나님의 자녀들이 그들의 기도에 응답 없을까 애태울 때 그분께서 응답하시고자 놀랍도록 일하시는 경우를 우리는 얼마나 많이 봅니까! 이처럼 우리는 그분께서 아니라고 하시는 이유를 어렴풋이 압니다만, 그것을 조금 더 후일에 온전히 드러내실 것입니다.
하나님께서 우리의 기도 허락하시면,
그래서 햇빛 좋고 하늘 푸르러
저 멀리 평탄한 길 그대와 나 부르고,
우리 가는 길에 새들 지저귈 때,
더러 멈추어 발밑의 꽃도 꺾고
시냇가에 모여 목도 축이면,
우리 여행길 왜 아니 즐겁겠는가,
하나님께서 우리의 기도 허락하시면,
하나님께서 우리의 기도 허락지 아니하시면,
그래서 검은 구름 몰려오고
험한 바위 앞길 가로막고 나서면,
세찬 바람 못 견디게 불어오면,
하지만 그대여, 이 여정 끝나면 우리의 집이라네.
이 모든 시련 아버지께서 보내셨으니
우리 모두 하늘의 양우리에 들이려 하심이네.
하나님께서 우리의 기도 허락지 아니하시면,
우리가 무작정 앞으로 달려 나갈 것이 아니라 "여호와 앞에서 잠잠하고 참아 기다리라" (시 37:7) 하신 말씀대로, 예수 그리스도께서 다시 오실 때 그 모든 이유 밝히 설명될 테니 그때까지 인내하며 기다린다면 얼마나 좋겠습니까! 하나님께서는 가져가기만 하시는 분입니까? 가져가시더라도 거듭 채워 주시는 분 아닙니까? 하지만 가져가신 것을 속히 회복해 주시지 않을 때는 어찌해야 하느냐고 묻습니까? 그분께서 일하시는 날이 오늘 하루뿐입니까? 그분께서 우리의 이 작은 세계 너머 어디에 무슨 관심이라도 가지고 계십니까? 그분께서 진정 우리의 죽음과 상관없이 일하실 수 있는 분입니까? 무덤 저편이 과연 끝없는 어둠과 영원한 침묵이겠습니까?
여기 이곳의 삶에만 한정해서 생각한다 해도 분명한 사실이 있으니, 하나님께서는 더 크고 특별하신 축복을 주실 의향이 없으시면 결코 우리에게 시련도 허락하지 않으신다는 것입니다. 기다릴 줄 아는 사람은, 하나님의 은혜로 말미암아 놀랍게 성장하고 있습니다.
골짜기에 서리 덮이고
산정은 잿빛으로 물들며
귀한 꽃나무 시들어 가고
나의 꽃송이 떨어져 내릴 때
사랑하는 아버지의 나직한 말씀,
"이 모든 일 내 손에서 나왔느니라.”
이해할 수 없는 일 믿는 자
복되리니,
여러 해 수고했으나
그대의 부 날아가고
그대 빈손만 남아
머리마저 백발이 될 때,
기억하라. 그대의 아버지
세상 모든 땅과 바다의 주인임을,
이해할 수 없는 일 믿는 자
복되리니.

When God Says No
There hath not failed one word of all his good promise — 1 Kgs 8:56
Some day we shall understand that God has a reason in every NO which He speaks through the slow movement of life. “Somehow God makes up to us.” How often, when His people are worrying and perplexing themselves about their prayers not being answered, is God answering them in a far richer way! Glimpses of this we see occasionally, but the full revelation of it remains for the future.
“If God says ’Yes’ to our prayer, dear heart,
And the sunlight is golden, the sky is blue,
While the smooth road beckons to me and you,
And the song-birds warble as on we go,
Pausing to gather the buds at our feet,
Stopping to drink of the streamlets we meet,
Happy, more happy, our journey will grow,
If God says ’Yes’ to our prayer, dear heart.
“If God says ’No’ to our prayer, dear heart,
And the clouds hang heavy and dull and gray;
If the rough rocks hinder and block the way,
While the sharp winds pierce us and sting with cold;
Ah, dear, there is home at the journey’s end,
And these are the trials the Father doth send
To draw us as sheep to His Heavenly fold,
If God says ’No’ to our prayer, dear heart.”
Oh for the faith that does not make haste, but waits patiently for the Lord, waits for the explanation that shall come in the end, at the revelation of Jesus Christ! When did God take anything from a man, without giving him manifold more in return? Suppose that the return had not been made immediately manifest, what then? Is today the limit of God’s working time? Has He no provinces beyond this little world? Does the door of the grave open upon nothing but infinite darkness and eternal silence?
Yet, even confining the judgment within the hour of this life, it is true that God never touches the heart with a trial without intending to bring upon it some grander gift, some tenderer benediction. He has attained to an eminent degree of Christian grace who knows how to wait. — Selected
