초라하고 보잘것없는 저희 인간의 생명 안에 거하시는 주님,
제가 어제도 오늘도 동물적인 정욕과 탐욕의 지배를 받지 않도록 이 생명을 고귀하게 높여 주시고, 이 생명이 사랑과 기쁨과 평강의 빛으로 빛나게 하시며, 이 생명으로 보이지 않는 세상의 아름다움을 비추는 거울이 되게 하옵소서.
오늘 이 세상을 사는 동안 제 안에 임재해 계시는 주님의 광채를 가리지 않고 도리어 제 이웃들이 더욱 분명하게 그 광채를 볼 수 있는 삶을 살게 하여 주옵소서.
이 한 날,
무엇이든 순전하고 진실하고 정의롭고 선한 것을 위해,
과학과 교육과 참된 가르침의 진보를 위해,
자기를 추구하는 이들의 황폐함에서 일상사를 구원하기 위해,
약하고 압제 받는 이들의 권리를 위해, 산업적인 협력과 상호 구제를 위해,
풍성한 과거 유산의 보존을 위해,
제 시대 사람들의 마음에 임하신 주의 영의 새 역사를 인정하기 위해,
다가올 더욱 영광스러운 날을 향한 소망을 위해,
오늘 제가 나서게 하옵소서.
오 주님, 오늘 제가 이익보다 의를 앞세우게 하시고, 제 자아보다 남을 앞세우게 하시고,
몸의 일보다 영의 일을 앞세우게 하옵소서.
고상한 목적의 성취를 당장의 쾌락을 즐기는 것보다 위에 두게 하시고 원칙을 평판보다 위에 두게 하시며, 다른 모든 것보다 당신을 위에 두게 하옵소서.
당신의 영광을 예수 그리스도의 얼굴에 비추신 오 하나님,
오늘 저에게 예수 그리스도처럼 용기 있는 마음, 진실한 마음, 온유한 마음, 큰 여백이 있는 마음, 오직 주님께만 고정된 마음을 주옵소서.
예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.
You who dwell in our poor and shabby human life, lifting it now and then above the dominance of animal passion and greed, allowing it to shine with the borrowed lights of love and joy and peace, and making it a mirror of the beauties of a world unseen, grant that my part in the world's life today may not be to obscure the splendor of Your presence but rather to make it more plainly visible to the eyes of my fellow men.
Let me stand today:
for whatever is pure and true and just and good
for the advancement of science and education and true learning
for the redemption of daily business from the blight of self-seeking
for the rights of the weak and the oppressed
for industrial co-operation and mutual help
for the conservation of the rich traditions of the past
for the recognition of new workings of Your Spirit in the minds of the men of my own time
for the hope of yet more glorious days to come.
Today, Lord--
let me put right before interest
let me put others before self
let me put the things of the spirit before the things of the body
let me put the attainment of noble ends above the enjoyment of present pleasures
let me put principle above reputation
let me put You before all else.
You, the reflection of whose transcendent glory once appeared unbroken in the face of Jesus Christ, give me today a heart like His -- a brave heart, a true heart, a tender heart, a heart with great room in it, a heart fixed on Yourself; for His name's sake. Amen.
가난하고 비천한 우리들의 삶에 계셔서 때때로 짐승 같은 정욕과 탐욕을 제어하시고, 사랑과 기쁨과 평화의 빛을 반사케 하시며, 그것으로 보이지 않는 세계의 아름다운 것을 비추는 거울이 되게 하시는 하나님, 오늘 나의 세상에서의 삶이 주님의 임재의 영광을 흐리지 말게 하시고, 오히려 나의 동료 인간들의 눈에 더욱 선명하게 해 주옵소서.
내가 오늘 무엇을 하든지 순결과 진실과 공평과 선한 편에 서게 하소서
학문과 교육과 참된 배움에 힘쓰게 하소서
내가 행하는 매일의 사업을 나를 추구하는 잘못으로부터 건져 주소서
약한 사람들과 압제 받는 사람들의 권리를 옹호하는 편이 되게 하소서
산업현장에서의 협력과 상호 도움으로 나아가게 하소서
지난날의 풍부한 전통의 보존자가 되게 하소서
오늘의 인간들의 마음속에 역사하시는 당신의 성령을 인정하게 하소서
다가오는 날의 더 영광스러운 소망을 갖게 하소서

육신의 일 보다는 영의 일을
현재의 쾌락을 즐기기보다는 고상한 결과들
명성보다는 원리를
모든 것보다 당신을 먼저 두게 하소서
