1Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa. |
1וּפְלִשְׁתִּים נִלְחֲמוּ בְיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיָּנָס אִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִפְּנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיִּפְּלוּ חֲלָלִים בְּהַר גִּלְבֹּעַ׃ |

2The Philistines pressed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. |
2וַיַּדְבְּקוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים אַחֲרֵי שָׁאוּל וְאַחֲרֵי בָנָיו וַיַּכּוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים אֶת־יֹונָתָן וְאֶת־אֲבִינָדָב וְאֶת־מַלְכִּי־שׁוּעַ בְּנֵי שָׁאוּל׃ |

3The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him. |
3וַתִּכְבַּד הַמִּלְחָמָה עַל־שָׁאוּל וַיִּמְצָאֻהוּ הַמֹּורִים בַּקָּשֶׁת וַיָּחֶל מִן־הַיֹּורִים׃ |

4Saul said to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and abuse me.' But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. |
4וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל־נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו שְׁלֹף חַרְבְּךָ וְדָקְרֵנִי בָהּ פֶּן־יָבֹאוּ הָעֲרֵלִים הָאֵלֶּה וְהִתְעַלְּלוּ־בִי וְלֹא אָבָה נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו כִּי יָרֵא מְאֹד ס וַיִּקַּח שָׁאוּל אֶת־הַחֶרֶב וַיִּפֹּל עָלֶיהָ׃ |

5When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died. |
5וַיַּרְא נֹשֵׂא־כֵלָיו כִּי מֵת שָׁאוּל וַיִּפֹּל גַּם־הוּא עַל־הַחֶרֶב וַיָּמֹת׃ ס |

6So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together. |
6וַיָּמָת שָׁאוּל וּשְׁלֹשֶׁת בָּנָיו וְכָל־בֵּיתֹו יַחְדָּו מֵתוּ׃ |
|
7When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them. |
7וַיִּרְאוּ כָּל־אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר־בָּעֵמֶק כִּי נָסוּ וְכִי־מֵתוּ שָׁאוּל וּבָנָיו וַיַּעַזְבוּ עָרֵיהֶם וַיָּנֻסוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיֵּשְׁבוּ בָּהֶם׃ ס |

8The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. |
8וַיְהִי מִמָּחֳרָת וַיָּבֹאוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים לְפַשֵּׁט אֶת־הַחֲלָלִים וַיִּמְצְאוּ אֶת־שָׁאוּל וְאֶת־בָּנָיו נֹפְלִים בְּהַר גִּלְבֹּעַ׃ |

9They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news among their idols and their people. |
9וַיַּפְשִׁיטֻהוּ וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת־רֹאשֹׁו וְאֶת־כֵּלָיו וַיְשַׁלְּחוּ בְאֶרֶץ־פְלִשְׁתִּים סָבִיב לְבַשֵּׂר אֶת־עֲצַבֵּיהֶם וְאֶת־הָעָם׃ |

10They put his armor in the temple of their gods and hung up his head in the temple of Dagon. |
10וַיָּשִׂימוּ אֶת־כֵּלָיו בֵּית אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וְאֶת־גֻּלְגָּלְתֹּו תָקְעוּ בֵּית דָּגֹון׃ ס |

11When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard of everything the Philistines had done to Saul, |
11וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ כֹּל יָבֵישׁ גִּלְעָד אֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים לְשָׁאוּל׃ |

12all their valiant men went and took the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones under the great tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days. |
12וַיָּקוּמוּ כָּל־אִישׁ חַיִל וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת־גּוּפַת שָׁאוּל וְאֵת גּוּפֹת בָּנָיו וַיְבִיאוּם יָבֵישָׁה וַיִּקְבְּרוּ אֶת־עַצְמֹותֵיהֶם תַּחַת הָאֵלָה בְּיָבֵשׁ וַיָּצוּמוּ שִׁבְעַת יָמִים׃ |

13Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, |
13וַיָּמָת שָׁאוּל בְּמַעֲלֹו אֲשֶׁר מָעַל בַּיהוָה עַל־דְּבַר יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא־שָׁמָר וְגַם־לִשְׁאֹול בָּאֹוב לִדְרֹושׁ׃ |
|
14and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse. |
14וְלֹא־דָרַשׁ בַּיהוָה וַיְמִיתֵהוּ וַיַּסֵּב אֶת־הַמְּלוּכָה לְדָוִיד בֶּן־יִשָׁי׃ ף |
1블레셋 사람들과 이스라엘이 싸우더니 이스라엘 사람들이 블레셋 사람들 앞에서 도망하다가 길보아 산에서 죽임을 당하여 엎드러지니라
2블레셋 사람들이 사울과 그 아들들을 추격하여 블레셋 사람들이 사울의 아들 요나단과 아비나답과 말기수아를 죽이고
3사울을 맹렬히 치며 활 쏘는 자가 사울에게 따라 미치매 사울이 그 쏘는 자로 말미암아 심히 다급하여
4사울이 자기의 무기를 가진 자에게 이르되 너는 칼을 빼어 그것으로 나를 찌르라 할례 받지 못한 자들이 와서 나를 욕되게 할까 두려워하노라 그러나 그의 무기를 가진 자가 심히 두려워하여 행하기를 원하지 아니하매 사울이 자기 칼을 뽑아서 그 위에 엎드러지니
5무기 가진 자가 사울이 죽는 것을 보고 자기도 칼에 엎드러져 죽으니라
6이와 같이 사울과 그의 세 아들과 그 온 집안이 함께 죽으니라
7골짜기에 있는 모든 이스라엘 사람이 그들의 도망한 것과 사울과 그의 아들들이 다 죽은 것을 보고 그 성읍들을 버리고 도망하매 블레셋 사람들이 와서 거기에 거주하니라
8이튿날에 블레셋 사람들이 와서 죽임을 당한 자의 옷을 벗기다가 사울과 그의 아들들이 길보아 산에 엎드러졌음을 보고
9곧 사울의 옷을 벗기고 그의 머리와 갑옷을 가져다가 사람을 블레셋 땅 사방에 보내 모든 이방 신전과 그 백성에게 소식을 전하고
10사울의 갑옷을 그들의 신전에 두고 그의 머리를 다곤의 신전에 단지라
11길르앗야베스 모든 사람이 블레셋 사람들이 사울에게 행한 모든 일을 듣고
12용사들이 다 일어나서 사울의 시체와 그의 아들들의 시체를 거두어 야베스로 가져다가 그 곳 상수리나무 아래에 그 해골을 장사하고 칠 일간 금식하였더라
13사울이 죽은 것은 여호와께 범죄하였기 때문이라 그가 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 아니하고 또 신접한 자에게 가르치기를 청하고
14여호와께 묻지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이시고 그 나라를 이새의 아들 다윗에게 넘겨 주셨더라
