17:1 여러분은 병들었거나 불구 되어 흠 있는 소나 양을 하나님께 제물로 드려서는 안 됩니다. 하나님께서는 그런 것을 가증스럽게 여기실 것이기 때문입니다.
17:2 ○ 하나님께서 주실 어느 성읍에서든지 주께서 악하게 보시는 일을 저질러서 주님과 맺은 언약을 깨뜨리고,
17:3 다른 신들을 섬기거나, 또는 해나 달이나 별을 숭배하는 사람이 생겨나게 될 것입니다.
17:4 여러분에게 그런 소문이 들리거나 그런 사실을 알게 되면, 그것이 사실인지 정확하게 조사를 해야 합니다. 만일 이스라엘 안에서 누군가가 정말로 그토록 가증스런 짓을 저질렀다면,
17:5 그런 짓을 저지른 남자나 여자는 성문 밖으로 끌고 가서 돌로 쳐 죽여야 합니다.
17:6 그러나 두세 사람의 증인이 있을 때만 죽일 수 있습니다. 한 사람의 증언만으로는 죽일 수 없습니다.
17:7 사형수를 처형할 때는 증인들이 가장 먼저 돌을 던지고, 이어서 모든 백성이 다같이 돌을 던져 죽이도록 하십시오. 이렇게 하여, 여러분 가운데서 우상을 섬기는 악의 뿌리를 뽑아 없애야 합니다.
17:8 ○ 여러분들 사이에 살인이나 다툼이나 분쟁이 일어났는데 판결을 내리기가 곤란한 경우에는, 그 문제를 가지고 주께서 지정해 놓으신 장소로 가도록 하십시오.
17:9 그곳에 있는 레위 지파의 제사장들이나 직무를 맡고 있는 재판관들에게 판결을 내려주도록 요청하면, 그들이 판결을 내려줄 것입니다.
17:10 여러분은 주께서 택하신 곳에서 그들이 내려준 결정에 따라야 합니다. 그들이 여러분에게 지시한 것은 무엇이든 그대로 따라야 합니다.
17:11 그들이 여러분에게 지시하는 명령이나 판결은 모두 그대로 따르도록 하십시오. 오른쪽으로나 왼쪽으로 벗어나지 말고, 그대로 따라야 합니다.
17:12 주를 섬기는 제사장이나 재판관의 판결을 무시하고 복종하지 않는 사람은 누구든지 죽여야 합니다. 이렇게 하여, 이스라엘 중에서 악의 뿌리를 뽑아야 합니다.
17:13 그렇게 하면, 온 백성이 그런 소식을 듣고 두려워할 것이고, 다시는 재판 결과를 무시하는 일이 없게 될 것입니다.
17:14 ○ 주께서 여러분에게 주시는 땅에 들어가 그곳을 차지하고 살다보면, 여러분은 주변의 다른 민족들처럼 왕을 세우고 싶어질지도 모릅니다.
17:15 그런 경우에는, 반드시 여러분의 하나님께서 친히 뽑아주시는 그 사람을 왕으로 세워야 합니다. 그러나 어떤 경우에도 동족이 아닌 외국인을 왕으로 세워서는 안 됩니다.
17:16 왕은 자기 자신을 위해 말을 많이 보유해서도 안 되고, 말을 많이 갖기 위해 백성을 이집트로 보내는 일이 있어서도 안 됩니다. 주께서는 이스라엘 백성이 다시는 이집트로 돌아가서는 안 된다고 금지하셨습니다.
17:17 왕은 또 아내를 많이 두어서도 안 됩니다. 아내를 많이 거느리면, 왕의 마음이 하나님으로부터 떠나게 됩니다. 또 왕은 자기를 위하여 은과 금을 너무 많이 쌓아두어도 안 됩니다.
17:18 왕위에 오른 사람은 레위 지파의 제사장들이 보관하고 있는 율법책을 베껴다가,
17:19 항상 가까운 곳에 두고 평생 동안 읽어야 합니다. 그럼으로써 왕은 주를 경외하는 법을 배우고, 또한 이 율법책의 모든 말씀과 규정들을 실천해야 합니다.
17:20 그렇게 하면, 왕은 마음이 교만해져서 자신의 동족을 얕잡아보는 일이 생기지 않을 것이며, 주님의 명령에서 좌로나 우로 벗어나는 일도 없을 것입니다. 그러면, 왕과 그의 자손들이 오래도록 이스라엘을 다스리게 될 것입니다.

1Do not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep that has any defect or flaw in it, for that would be detestable to him. 2If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant, 3and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky, 4and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, 5take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death. 6On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness. 7The hands of the witnesses must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from among you. 8If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge-whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults-take them to the place the LORD your God will choose. 9Go to the priests, who are Levites, and to the judge who is in office at that time. Inquire of them and they will give you the verdict. 10You must act according to the decisions they give you at the place the LORD will choose. Be careful to do everything they direct you to do. 11Act according to the law they teach you and the decisions they give you. Do not turn aside from what they tell you, to the right or to the left. 12The man who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the LORD your God must be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel. 13All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not be contemptuous again. 14When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, 'Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,' 15be sure to appoint over you the king the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not a brother Israelite. 16The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the LORD has told you, 'You are not to go back that way again.' 17He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold. 18When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites. 19It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees 20and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
