6월 26일 로마서 3:3 어떤 자들이 믿지 아니하였으면 어찌하리요 그 믿지 아니함이 하나님의 미쁘심을 폐하겠느냐
내 인생의 슬픔을 근원까지 찾아들어가 보면 결국 불신이 자리 잡고 있습니다. 내 과거는 완전히 용서받았고 현재는 능력으로 충만하며 미래는 희망으로 빛날 것임을 진정으로 믿는다면, 어찌하여 내가 온전히 행복하지 않을 수 있겠습니까?
그렇습니다. 미래가 밝은 것은 하나님의 신실하심 때문입니다. 그분의 신실하심은 항구적이니 나의 기분에 따라 좌우되지 않습니다. 또한 나의 불신으로 그분의 약속 앞에서 내가 망설이고 넘어질 때도 그분께서는 흔들림이 없으십니다. 그분의 신실하심은 굳건하며, 만세 전의 구름을 뚫고 줄지어 늘어선 산봉우리들처럼 비길 데 없이 우뚝합니다. 게다가 그분의 산은 모두 하나님의 반석 위에 기초를 두고 있으니 깊이를 측량조차 할 수 없습니다.
등반하는 사람이 높은 고도에서 현기증을 느낀다고 몽블랑이 사라지는 것은 아닙니다. 잠시 안 보이거나 안개에 휩싸인 듯 가물가물할 뿐입니다.
하나님의 약속을 믿지 못하고 넘어졌다 해서 받을 복을 못 받다니 조금 놀랍습니까? 믿음이 있어야 응답을 받는다든가 믿음을 얻기 위해 노력하자는 말이 아닙니다. 내가 하고 싶은 말은, 믿어야 받는다는 조건을 하나님 자신이 정하셨다는 것입니다. 그리고 그분께서는 선물을 주시는 분으로서 당연히 그러한 조건을 내세우실 권리가 있으십니다.
불신은 끝없이 묻습니다. “어떻게 이것이 가능한가?" 불신은 늘 “어떻게”를 달고 다닙니다. 하지만 이 “어떻게” 라는 물음에 믿음이 단 한 마디로 대답하니 천 번 만 번의 "어떻게”는 놀라서 흩어집니다. 위대한 그 한 마디, “하나님은 가능하시다!”
우리가 그토록 적은 시간을 들여서 그토록 많은 일을 성취해 내는 경우는 기도할 때뿐입니다. 주 예수 그리스도께서 기도에 관해 가르치신 내용을 틀림없이 잘 보필할 수 있는 생각이 있습니다. "온전한 믿음을 가진 신자 하나만 일어서도 세계의 역사는 바뀔 것이다."
여러분이 그렇게, 우리 아버지 하나님의 주권과 인도하심을 받들어 일어서는 사람이 되지 않겠습니까?
믿음 없는 기도는 순식간에 목표를 잃고 중언부언하는 습관으로 퇴보하거나 싸늘한 위선으로 타락합니다. 하지만 믿음으로 드리는 기도는 하나님의 전능하심을 우리 간구의 후원군으로 삼습니다. 온 마음을 바쳐 기도의 능력을 이해하고 그에 부응하려는 자세가 되지 않았다면 기도하지 않는 편이 낫습니다. 참된 기도는 가만히 속삭이기만 해도 하늘과 땅이, 과거와 미래가 한 음성으로 화답합니다. "아멘!"
그리스도께서 드리신 기도가 이와 같습니다.
하나님의 뜻을 벗어난 것을 제외하면 기도의 능력이 미치지 아니하는 것은 없습니다.

The Answer is God
For what if some did not believe? Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? — Rom 3:3
I think that I can trace every scrap of sorrow in my life to simple unbelief. How could I be anything but quite happy if I believed always that all the past is forgiven, and all the present furnished with power, and all the future bright with hope because of the same abiding facts which do not change with my mood, do not stumble because I totter and stagger at the promise through unbelief, but stand firm and clear with their peaks of pearl cleaving the air of Eternity, and the bases of their hills rooted unfathomably in the Rock of God. Is it any wonder that, when we stagger at any promise of God through unbelief, we do not receive it? Not that faith merits an answer, or in any way earns it, or works it out; but God has made believing a condition of receiving, and the Giver has a sovereign right to choose His own terms of gift. — Rev. Prayer without faith degenerates into objectless routine, or soulless hypocrisy. Prayer with faith brings Omnipotence to back our petitions. Better not pray unless and until your whole being responds to the efficacy of your supplication. When the true prayer is breathed, earth and heaven, the past and the future, say Amen.
