찬송: 주님께서 주시는 그 사랑 놀라워라, 설교: 벨직신앙고백서 22항 "믿음으로 의롭게 됨" [매일 하나님 앞에서] 성령께서 우리 마음속에 참된 믿음을 일으키심을 우리는 믿습니다

주님께서 주시는 그 사랑 놀라워라 그의 생명 주시기까지 널 사랑하네 날 사랑하네 너와 날 사랑하네 기도 "그의 거룩한 이름을 자랑하라 여호와를 구하는 자들은 마음이 즐거울지로다" (시편 105:3) 지금 이때에 하나님께서 그분의 의를 나타내신 것은 자신이 의로우시며 또한 예수 믿는 사람들을 의롭다고 인정하시는 분임을 나타내시기 위함입니다. ...우리는 사람이 율법의 행위와 상관없이 믿음으로 의롭다는 인정을 받는다고 생각합니다. (로마서 3:26, 28) 우리는 이 큰 비밀에 대한 참 지식을 얻도록 성령이 우리 마음속에 참 믿음을 일으키심을 믿습니다. 이 믿음은 예수 그리스도를 그의 모든 공로와 함께 받아들이고, 그를 우리의 소유로 삼으며, 그분 외에 어떤 것도 찾지 않습니다. 왜냐하면, 우리의 구원에 필요한 모든 것이 예수 그리스도 안에 있지 않든지, 아니면 예수 그리스도 안에 모두 있어서 믿음으로 그를 소유한 사람이 완전한 구원을 소유하게 되든지 어느 하나가 필연적으로 따라오기 때문입니다. 그러므로 그리스도가 충분하지 않고 그 이외에 다른 어떤 것이 필요하다고 주장하는 것은 엄청난 신성모독입니다. 그렇다면 그리스도가 단지 절반의 구주가 된다는 결론이 되기 때문입니다. 그러므로 우리는 바울과 함께 우리가 의롭다 하심을 얻는 것은 율법의 행위에 있지 않고 믿음으로 된다는 것을 당연히 말하게 됩니다(롬3:28). 동시에, 엄밀히 말하면 믿음 그 자체가 우리를 의롭게 한다는 것을 의미하지 않습니다. 왜냐하면, 믿음은 단지 우리가 그리스도를 우리의 의로 받아들이는 받편에 지나지 않기 때문입니다. 즉 그리스도는 그의 모든 공로와 그가 우리를 위하여 그리고 우리를 대신하여 행한 많은 거룩한 사역들을 우리에게 돌리십니다. 그러므로 예수 그리스도가 우리의 의(義)이시며, 믿음은 그의 모든 은덕의 교제 속에 그와 우리의 관계를 유지하는 수단입니다. 이 은덕들이 우리의 소유가 될 때 그것은 우리에게 무죄를 선언하기에 충분합니다. 로마서 3 장 21절: 이제는 율법 외에 하나님의 한 의가 나타났으니 율법과 선지자들에게 증거를 받은 것이라 22절: 곧 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암아 모든 믿는 자에게 미치는 하나님의 의니 차별이 없느니라 벨직신앙고백 제22조 그리스도를 믿는 믿음을 통한 우리의 칭의 이 큰 비밀에 대한 참 지식을 얻도록 성령님께서 우리 마음속에 참된 믿음을 일으키심을 우리는 믿습니다. 이 믿음은 예수 그리스도를 그의 모든 공로와 함께 받아들이고, 그를 자신의 것으로 삼으며, 그분 외에 어떤 것도 구하지 않습니다. 왜냐하면 우리의 구원에 필요한 모든 것은 예수 그리스도 안에 있지 않든지, 아니면 예수 그리스도 안에 모두 있어서 믿음으로 그를 소유한 사람이 완전한 구원을 소유하게 되든지 어느 하나가 필연적으로 따라오기 때문입니다. 그러므로 그리스도는 충분하지 않으며 그분 외에 또 다른 어떤 것이 필요하다고 주장하는 것이 극악한 신성모독이 되는 것은, 그러한 주장은 그리스도가 절반의 구주에 불과하다는 결론에 이르기 때문입니다. 그러므로 우리는 바울과 함께 우리가 의롭다 하심을 얻는 것은 율법의 행위에 있지 않고 오직 믿음으로만 된다고 말하는 것은 당연합니다(롬 3:28). 그러나 정확히 말하자면 우리는 믿음 그 자체가 우리를 의롭게 한다는 것을 의미하는 것은 아닙니다. 왜냐하면 믿음이란 오직 우리가 그리스도를 우리의 의로 받아들일 수 있는 방편일 뿐이기 때문입니다. 우리를 위하여 그리고 우리를 대신하여 그가 행하신 모든 거룩한 사역들과 그의 모든 공로를 우리에게 베푸시는 예수 그리스도만이 우리의 의(義)이시며, 믿음은 우리를 그리스도의 모든 은덕의 교제 안에서 그리스도와 우리와의 교통을 유지하는 수단(means)입니다. 이러한 은덕들이 우리의 것이 될 때 그것은 우리의 죄를 용서하기에 충분합니다. Article 22: Of Faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that, to attain the true knowledge of this great mystery, the Holy Ghost kindleth in our hearts an upright faith, which embraces Jesus Christ, with all his merits, appropriates him, and seeks nothing more besides him. For it must needs follow, either that all things, which are requisite to our salvation, are not in Jesus Christ, or if all things are in him, that then those who possess Jesus Christ through faith, have complete salvation in him. Therefore, for any to assert, that Christ is not sufficient, but that something more is required besides him, would be too gross a blasphemy: for hence it would follow, that Christ was but half a Savior. Therefore we justly say with Paul, that we are justified by faith alone, or by faith without works. However, to speak more clearly, we do not mean, that faith itself justifies us, for it is only an instrument with which we embrace Christ our Righteousness. But Jesus Christ, imputing to us all his merits and so many holy works which he has done for us, and in our stead, is our Righteousness. And faith is an instrument that keeps us in communion with him in all his benefits, which, when become ours, are more than sufficient to acquit us of our sins. Article 22: The Righteousness of Faith We believe that for us to acquire the true knowledge of this great mystery the Holy Spirit kindles in our hearts a true faith that embraces Jesus Christ, with all his merits, and makes him its own, and no longer looks for anything apart from him. For it must necessarily follow that either all that is required for our salvation is not in Christ or, if all is in him, then those who have Christ by faith have his salvation entirely. Therefore, to say that Christ is not enough but that something else is needed as well is a most enormous blasphemy against God— for it then would follow that Jesus Christ is only half a Savior. And therefore we justly say with Paul that we are justified “by faith alone” or “by faith apart from works.”54 However, we do not mean, properly speaking, that it is faith itself that justifies us— for faith is only the instrument by which we embrace Christ, our righteousness. But Jesus Christ is our righteousness in making available to us all his merits and all the holy works he has done for us and in our place. And faith is the instrument that keeps us in communion with him and with all his benefits. When those benefits are made ours, they are more than enough to absolve us of our sins. 54Rom. 3:28
