1 When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns, the people assembled as one man in Jerusalem. 1 וַיִּגַּע הַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בֶּעָרִים ס וַיֵּאָסְפוּ הָעָם כְּאִישׁ אֶחָד אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלִָם׃ ס 2 Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. 2 וַיָּקָם יֵשׁוּעַ בֶּן־יֹוצָדָק וְאֶחָיו הַכֹּהֲנִים וּזְרֻבָּבֶל בֶּן־שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל וְאֶחָיו וַיִּבְנוּ אֶת־מִזְבַּח אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַעֲלֹות עָלָיו עֹלֹות כַּכָּתוּב בְּתֹורַת מֹשֶׁה אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִים׃ 3 Despite their fear of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD, both the morning and evening sacrifices. 3 וַיָּכִינוּ הַמִּזְבֵּחַ עַל־מְכֹונֹתָיו כִּי בְּאֵימָה עֲלֵיהֶם מֵעַמֵּי הָאֲרָצֹות [כ= וַיַּעַל] [ק= וַיַּעֲלוּ*] עָלָיו עֹלֹות לַיהוָה עֹלֹות לַבֹּקֶר וְלָעָרֶב׃ 4 Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. 4 וַיַּעֲשׂוּ אֶת־חַג הַסֻּכֹּות כַּכָּתוּב וְעֹלַת יֹום בְּיֹום בְּמִסְפָּר כְּמִשְׁפַּט דְּבַר־יֹום בְּיֹומֹו׃ 5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred feasts of the LORD, as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the LORD. 5 וְאַחֲרֵיכֵן עֹלַת תָּמִיד וְלֶחֳדָשִׁים וּלְכָל־מֹועֲדֵי יְהוָה הַמְקֻדָּשִׁים וּלְכֹל מִתְנַדֵּב נְדָבָה לַיהוָה׃ 6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, though the foundation of the LORD's temple had not yet been laid. 6 מִיֹּום אֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי הֵחֵלּוּ לְהַעֲלֹות עֹלֹות לַיהוָה וְהֵיכַל יְהוָה לֹא יֻסָּד׃ 7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters, and gave food and drink and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs by sea from Lebanon to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus king of Persia. 7 וַיִּתְּנוּ־כֶסֶף לַחֹצְבִים וְלֶחָרָשִׁים וּמַאֲכָל וּמִשְׁתֶּה וָשֶׁמֶן לַצִּדֹנִים וְלַצֹּרִים לְהָבִיא עֲצֵי אֲרָזִים מִן־הַלְּבָנֹון אֶל־יָם יָפֹוא כְּרִשְׁיֹון כֹּורֶשׁ מֶלֶךְ־פָּרַס עֲלֵיהֶם׃ ף 8 In the second month of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak and the rest of their brothers (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work, appointing Levites twenty years of age and older to supervise the building of the house of the LORD. 8 וּבַשָּׁנָה הַשֵּׁנִית לְבֹואָם אֶל־בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים לִירוּשָׁלִַם בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי הֵחֵלּוּ זְרֻבָּבֶל בֶּן־שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל וְיֵשׁוּעַ בֶּן־יֹוצָדָק וּשְׁאָר אֲחֵיהֶם הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם וְכָל־הַבָּאִים מֵהַשְּׁבִי יְרוּשָׁלִַם וַיַּעֲמִידוּ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם מִבֶּן עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה וָמַעְלָה לְנַצֵּחַ עַל־מְלֶאכֶת בֵּית־יְהוָה׃ ף 9 Jeshua and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Hodaviah) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers-all Levites-joined together in supervising those working on the house of God. 9 וַיַּעֲמֹד יֵשׁוּעַ בָּנָיו וְאֶחָיו קַדְמִיאֵל וּבָנָיו בְּנֵי־יְהוּדָה כְּאֶחָד לְנַצֵּחַ עַל־עֹשֵׂה הַמְּלָאכָה בְּבֵית הָאֱלֹהִים ס בְּנֵי חֵנָדָד בְּנֵיהֶם וַאֲחֵיהֶם הַלְוִיִּם׃ 10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the LORD, as prescribed by David king of Israel. 10 וְיִסְּדוּ הַבֹּנִים אֶת־הֵיכַל יְהוָה וַיַּעֲמִידוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים מְלֻבָּשִׁים בַּחֲצֹצְרֹות וְהַלְוִיִּם בְּנֵי־אָסָף בַּמְצִלְתַּיִם לְהַלֵּל אֶת־יְהוָה עַל־יְדֵי דָּוִיד מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD : 'He is good; his love to Israel endures forever.' And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. 11 וַיַּעֲנוּ בְּהַלֵּל וּבְהֹודֹת לַיהוָה כִּי טֹוב כִּי־לְעֹולָם חַסְדֹּו עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכָל־הָעָם הֵרִיעוּ תְרוּעָה גְדֹולָה בְהַלֵּל לַיהוָה עַל הוּסַד בֵּית־יְהוָה׃ ס 12 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. 12 וְרַבִּים מֵהַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם וְרָאשֵׁי הָאָבֹות הַזְּקֵנִים אֲשֶׁר רָאוּ אֶת־הַבַּיִת הָרִאשֹׁון בְּיָסְדֹו זֶה הַבַּיִת בְּעֵינֵיהֶם בֹּכִים בְּקֹול גָּדֹול וְרַבִּים בִּתְרוּעָה בְשִׂמְחָה לְהָרִים קֹול׃ 13 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away. 13 וְאֵין הָעָם מַכִּירִים קֹול תְּרוּעַת הַשִּׂמְחָה לְקֹול בְּכִי הָעָם כִּי הָעָם מְרִיעִים תְּרוּעָה גְדֹולָה וְהַקֹּול נִשְׁמַע עַד־לְמֵרָחֹוק׃ ף [에스라 3장] 새번역 예배를 다시 드리기 시작하다 1 이스라엘 자손은 여러 마을에 흩어져서 자리를 잡은 지 일곱째 달이 되었을 때에, 일제히 예루살렘으로 모였다. 2 요사닥의 아들 예수아와 그의 동료 제사장들과 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 그의 동료들이 모여서, 하나님의 사람 모세의 율법에 규정된 대로 번제를 드릴 수 있도록, 이스라엘의 하나님의 제단을 쌓았다. 3 그들은, 그 땅에 사는 백성들이 두렵기는 하지만, 제단이 서 있던 옛 터에 제단을 세우고, 거기에서 아침 저녁으로 주님께 번제를 드렸다. 4 초막절이 되니, 기록된 대로 그 절기를 지켰다. 그들은 또한 규례를 따라서, 날마다 정해진 횟수대로 번제를 드렸다. 5 그런 다음부터, 그들은 늘 드리는 번제 외에도, 초하루 제사 때와, 거룩하게 지켜야 하는 주님의 모든 절기를 맞이할 때와, 주님께 자원예물을 바칠 때마다 번제를 드렸다. 6 주님의 성전 기초는 아직 놓지 않았지만, 그들은 일곱째 달 초하루부터 주님께 번제를 드리기 시작하였다. 7 백성은, 석수와 목수에게는 삯을 주어서 일을 시키고, 시돈 사람과 두로 사람에게는 먹을 것과 마실 것과 기름을 주어서, 페르시아 왕 고레스가 그들에게 허락한 대로, 레바논에서 백향목을 베어 바닷길로 욥바까지 띄워 보내게 하였다. 성전을 다시 짓기 시작하다 8 백성이 하나님의 성전 터가 있는 예루살렘으로 돌아온 지 이태째가 되는 해 둘째 달에, 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 요사닥의 아들 예수아와, 그들의 나머지 동료 제사장과 레위 사람과, 사로잡혀 갔다가 예루살렘으로 돌아온 모든 사람이 공사를 시작하고, 스무 살이 넘은 레위 사람을 주님의 성전 건축 감독으로 세웠다. 9 예수아와 그의 아들들과 친족과, 호다위야의 자손 갓미엘과 그의 아들들이, 한마음 한뜻으로 하나님의 성전 짓는 일을 감독하였다. 레위 사람 헤나닷의 아들과 손자와 친족들도 그들과 함께 일을 하였다. 10 집 짓는 일꾼들이 주님의 성전 기초를 놓을 때에, 예복을 입은 제사장들은 나팔을 들고, 레위 사람 가운데서 아삽 자손들은 자바라를 들고, 이스라엘 왕 다윗이 지시한 대로, 저마다 주님을 찬양하려고 자기의 자리에 섰다. 11 그들은 서로 화답하면서 주님을 찬양하고, 감사의 찬송을 불렀다. "주님은 어지시다." "언제나 한결같이 이스라엘을 사랑하신다." 주님의 성전 기초가 놓인 것을 본 온 백성도, 목청껏 소리를 높여서 주님을 찬양하였다. 12 그러나 첫 성전을 본 나이 많은 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 가문의 우두머리들은, 성전 기초가 놓인 것을 보고, 크게 통곡하였다. 또 다른 쪽에서는, 많은 사람들이 기뻐하며 즐거이 노래하였다. 13 환성과 통곡이 한데 뒤섞여서, 소리가 너무나도 크고 시끄러웠다. 그 소리는 멀리서도 들을 수 있었으나, 어느 누구도 환성인지 통곡인지 구별할 수 없었다.
