18:1 제사장 일을 맡는 레위 지파는 이스라엘의 다른 지파들과는 달리, 땅을 유산으로 나눠 받지 못합니다. 제사장들은 주께 바쳐지는 제물을 먹고 살아가게 됩니다. 그것이 그들의 유산이기 때문입니다.
18:2 그들이 유산으로 땅을 나눠 받지 않는 것은, 주께서 약속하신 대로 주가 곧 그들의 유산이 되기 때문입니다.
18:3 누군가 소나 양을 주께 제물로 바치면, 제사장은 그 제물을 바친 사람에게 그 제물의 앞다리 하나와 두 턱과 내장을 받을 수 있는 권리가 있습니다.
18:4 여러분은 처음 거둔 곡식과 포도즙, 기름, 처음 깎은 양털도 제사장에게 주어야 합니다.
18:5 여러분의 주께서 이스라엘의 모든 지파들 가운데서 레위 지파를 선택하여 그들로 하여금 자손 대대로 성전에서 주를 섬기도록 하셨기 때문입니다.
18:6 ○ 이스라엘의 성읍들 중 어디에 살든, 레위 사람들은 원하기만 하면 주께서 지정하신 성소로 찾아가서,
18:7 이미 그 성소에서 봉사하고 있는 다른 자기 형제들과 마찬가지로, 그도 역시 주 하나님을 섬길 수 있습니다.
18:8 그렇게 하면, 그에게는 성소에 있는 다른 레위인들과 똑같이 제물의 몫을 나누어 받을 권리가 있게 됩니다. 물려받은 가산을 팔아서 받은 돈이 그에게 따로 있더라도, 그것과는 상관없이 제물을 나눔에 있어 그 사람도 당연히 한 몫을 받을 권리가 있습니다.
18:9 ○ 하나님께서 여러분에게 주시는 땅에 들어가게 되면, 그곳의 민족들이 행하는 가증스러운 풍속을 본받지 마십시오.
18:10 여러분들 중에는 아들이나 딸을 불태워 우상에게 제물로 바치는 사람이 있어서는 안 됩니다. 또 점쟁이나 무당이나 박수에게 점치는 사람도 있어서는 안 됩니다.
18:11 주문을 외는 자나 죽은 사람의 넋을 불러내는 자에게 자기 인생의 일을 물어보는 사람이 있어서는 안 됩니다.
18:12 그런 짓을 하는 사람은 누구든지 주께서 크게 미워하실 것입니다. 그 땅에 사는 백성이 바로 그런 짓들을 행했기 때문에, 여러분의 하나님께서 그들을 여러분 앞에서 쫓아내시는 것입니다.
18:13 그러므로 여러분은 하나님 앞에서 흠 없이 온전하게 살아야 합니다.
18:14 ○ 여러분이 쫓아낼 민족들은 점쟁이나 무당의 말을 듣지만, 여러분의 하나님께서는 여러분이 그런 방식으로 사는 것을 허락하시지 않습니다.
18:15 주께서는 여러분의 동족 가운데서 나와 같은 예언자 한 사람을 세워주실 것입니다. 그러므로 여러분은 주께서 세워주신 예언자의 말에 귀를 기울여야 합니다.
18:16 호렙 산에서 모였을 때, 여러분이 주께 간구한 것이 바로 그것이었습니다. 그때 여러분은 하나님께 호소했습니다. ‘우리가 다시는 우리 주의 음성을 듣지 않게 해 주시고, 다시는 그 큰불을 보지 않게 해 주십시오. 우리가 죽을 것만 같습니다.’
18:17 그때 주께서는 내게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘그들의 말이 옳다.
18:18 내가 그들의 동족 가운데서 너와 같은 예언자 한 사람을 일으켜 세우고, 그 예언자의 입을 통하여 내가 그들에게 말하겠다. 내가 예언자에게 명령하면, 그가 그들에게 그대로 전하도록 하겠다.
18:19 그가 내 이름으로 말할 때에, 누구든지 그 예언자의 말을 듣지 않는 사람은 내가 벌을 내릴 것이다.
18:20 ○ 또 어떤 예언자든, 내가 명령하지도 않았는데 제멋대로 내 이름을 내세우고 말하거나 혹은 다른 신들의 이름을 내세우며 말한다면, 그 예언자는 반드시 죽임을 당할 것이다.’
18:21 그런데 여러분은 ‘그 말이 주께서 명하신 말씀인지 아닌지를 우리가 어떻게 분별할 수 있겠는가?’라는 생각을 가질 수 있습니다.
18:22 예언자가 주의 이름으로 선포한 내용이 그대로 이루어지지 않으면, 그것은 주께서 명하신 말씀이 아닙니다. 그 사람은 제멋대로 예언을 한 것이므로, 여러분은 그런 사람을 두려워할 필요가 없습니다.

1. The priests, who are Levites -- indeed the whole tribe of Levi -- are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the offerings made to the LORD by fire, for that is their inheritance. 2. They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance, as he promised them. 3. This is the share due the priests from the people who sacrifice a bull or a sheep: the shoulder, the jowls and the inner parts. 4. You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep, 5. for the LORD your God has chosen them and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister in the LORD's name always. 6. If a Levite moves from one of your towns anywhere in Israel where he is living, and comes in all earnestness to the place the LORD will choose, 7. he may minister in the name of the LORD his God like all his fellow Levites who serve there in the presence of the LORD. 8. He is to share equally in their benefits, even though he has received money from the sale of family possessions. 9. When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11. or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. 14. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. 15. The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. 16. For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die." 17. The LORD said to me: "What they say is good. 18. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. 19. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. 20. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death." 21. You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?" 22. If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
